Fastest lap: Francesco Bagnaia 1 minute 28.508 seconds (2024)
Quickest lap in the race: Francesco Bagnaia with a time of 1 minute and 29.840 seconds (2023).
Francesco Bagnaia maintains his lead in the last practice session for the 2024 Austrian MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring.
KTM's wild-card rider Pol Espargaro, who had fallen to 21st place on Friday afternoon due to a technical problem that made him stop his prototype RC16s, which included updated aerodynamics, engine, and chassis components, led the timing charts for the initial segment of the 30-minute session.
On Friday, Bagnaia, the reigning champion and two-time winner, reclaimed the lead shortly before the halfway point and maintained it. Espargaro held onto second place, while Marc Marquez stayed in third.
Dr. Angel Charte, a MotoGP physician, was observed inspecting the left hand of championship frontrunner Jorge Martin during the session. Martin reportedly sustained a cut from a piece of metal as he was exiting the shower the previous evening. Despite the injury, Martin posted the fourth fastest time.
The first qualifying session is about to start for riders who didn't make it into the top ten on Friday afternoon, such as Pedro Acosta.
This weekend, test riders Pol Espargaro from KTM, Lorenzo Savadori from Aprilia, and Stefan Bradl from Honda are participating as wild-card entrants.
Due to the high tire wear at the Sachsenring, Michelin is supplying a strengthened rear tire design for the Red Bull Ring.
Fabio di Giannantonio suffered a dislocated left shoulder in an accident on Friday and has been declared unfit to continue for the rest of the weekend.
