Bagnaia Confident of Improvement at Aragon MotoGP, Martin Focused on Championship Over Marquez Duel
Francesco Bagnaia indicates progress with "we made significant progress" | Jorge Martin clarifies, "My competition isn't with Marc."
Francesco Bagnaia comments, "We advanced today, and we'll continue to advance by tomorrow."
Initially ranking 21st in the first practice session for the Aragon MotoGP, championship frontrunner Francesco Bagnaia made a significant leap to finish sixth by the afternoon's conclusion.
On the first day, Marc Marquez led the pack as the fastest rider from Gresini Ducati, but Bagnaia remains optimistic about making further progress on Saturday.
In that case, the Sprint race could witness a rerun of their competition for the win in 2021.
"Right now, I'm feeling pretty relaxed because this afternoon we made significant progress," Bagnaia shared with MotoGP.com, after finishing a lap 0.790 seconds slower than Marquez.
"There's a gap in our understanding or resources in both Sector 2 and Sector 4, yet we have the opportunity to comprehend and address these issues. Conversely, in Sector 1 and Sector 3, our position is currently very solid."
"This afternoon, we took a step forward, and we plan to take another one tomorrow, which will undoubtedly boost my confidence significantly."
Heading into this weekend's race, Jorge Martin, trailing Bagnaia by only five points, suggested that his primary concern is the championship fight rather than outperforming Marquez.
"Martin expressed optimism, having achieved the fourth quickest time on Friday. "I believe we are progressing and taking incremental steps forward," he stated.
"Today, it was only Marc and the Aprilias who managed to outpace us. However, I believe our main issue is losing significant time in just a couple of turns. With some luck, we'll be able to consolidate our efforts tomorrow, but we're not too far behind."
"He emphasized that his competition isn't directly with Marc. He acknowledged Marc's strength and expressed a commitment to give his all. Winning would be ideal, he said, but the focus remains on performing to the best of his ability rather than defeating Marc specifically."
