Bagnaia Clinches Second Consecutive Misano Pole in Dramatic Emilia Romagna MotoGP Qualifying

Emilia Romagna MotoGP: Bagnaia Edges Out Martin for Pole Position, Marquez Secures Seventh Despite Crash

Defending world champion achieves consecutive pole positions at Misano

Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati secured his second consecutive pole position at the Misano MotoGP during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, setting a new lap record and outpacing Jorge Martin, as Marc Marquez experienced a crash.

During the Q2 session at Misano on Saturday morning, Bagnaia and Martin went back and forth breaking lap records. Ultimately, the world champion secured the top spot with a time of 1 minute and 30.031 seconds.

The factory Ducati rider's lap was 0.214 seconds faster than Martin's, with only seven points separating them before this afternoon's sprint race.

Enea Bastianini surged to third place by the conclusion of Q2, although he was 0.533 seconds behind the pole position time. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez had a crash, resulting in him finishing in seventh place.

Following the practice sessions on Friday, it appeared that the remainder of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix would be a direct showdown between Bagnaia and Martin.

In the early stages of Q2, Bagnaia led with a lap time of 1m30.879s, edging out Martin by 0.025s on their initial fast laps.

During his second run, Martin established a temporary new lap record with a time of 1 minute and 30.245 seconds, significantly widening the gap and securing a lead of 0.344 seconds on his Pramac Ducati.

Bagnaia reduced the gap to 0.097 seconds during his initial lap of the second attempt, then further improved to a 1 minute 30.031 seconds, securing the leading position and pole position for his 100th grand prix appearance.

Martin's last attempt at a fast lap seemed to be hindered when he got caught behind his Pramac teammate, Franco Morbidelli. As a result, the Spanish racer couldn't better his time of 1 minute and 30.245 seconds.

In the final moments, Bastianini clocked a time of 1m30.564s, securing a spot on the front row just ahead of KTM's Brad Binder, who advanced from Q1.

Pedro Acosta, who led the second free practice session, secured the fifth position for Tech3. Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi claimed the sixth spot riding his VR46 Ducati.

Marc Marquez experienced a crash towards the conclusion of FP2. He began Q2 riding his second Gresini Ducati but suffered another fall at Turn 3 with approximately 10 minutes remaining in the session.

After his primary bike was fixed following a crash in FP2, the Spanish rider managed to get back on track. However, he was unable to improve upon the 1m30.880s time he set at the beginning of Q2.

Due to late advancements from Binder and Bastianini, Marquez was relegated to the third row in seventh place, positioned ahead of Aprilia's Maverick Vinales and Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.

The top 12 was rounded out by Morbidelli, Aleix Espargaro from Aprilia, and Trackhouse's Miguel Oliveira, all of whom advanced from Q1.

Fabio Di Giannantonio from VR46 narrowly failed to secure a spot in Q2 and will begin the race in 13th position. Meanwhile, Luca Marini and Joan Mir had their strongest qualifying performances of the season, starting in 15th and 16th places respectively on the factory Honda.

Jack Miller is set to begin the race from a disappointing 19th position for KTM, whereas Yamaha's Alex Rins missed the qualifying session because he was unwell.

Alex Marquez experienced a crash on the Gresini Ducati, resulting in him finishing 21st.
