Bagnaia Brushes Off Marquez’s Mental Games Ahead of Ducati Team-Up: A Rivalry Ignites
Pecco Bagnaia sends a message to Marc Marquez: "Mind tricks don't work on me…"
"His skills are undeniable. Yet, he's on the same level as Martin."
Pecco Bagnaia has advised Marc Marquez that engaging in mind games is unnecessary when they are both in the Ducati team area.
Marquez has been selected for Ducati's official team for 2025, securing a spot on one of the most sought-after motorcycles in the sport, alongside Bagnaia.
The decision led Enea Bastianini, Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and the Pramac team to leave Ducati in search of new opportunities.
However, it assembles a high-profile pair for Ducati's official team – though it's a duo that could potentially compete against each other for the title.
Bagnaia was questioned about whether he has started to think about what it would be like to have Marquez as his teammate.
He informed TNT Sports, "I'll begin considering it next year. His skill is well recognized.
"However, he's just as quick as Martin. Maintaining a good team dynamic in the pit will be crucial."
"On the circuit, the dynamics change – you're in competition with your team member."
Bagnaia received caution regarding the distinct mind tricks Marquez might play on him. Has he taken this into account?
"Truthfully, there's not a lot," asserted Bagnaia. "My advantage lies in my mindset. Psychological tactics don't work on me."
TNT Sports' Michael Laverty remarked, "It's common knowledge that allowing Marc to rattle you is a mistake."
"He's the individual residing in the garage. Upon Marc's arrival, Pecco aims to assert his superiority. While Pecco appears to be reserved, he also possesses an aggressive side."
This season, a contest for the championship is taking place as Bagnaia and Marquez compete on varied equipment.
Bagnaia is at the forefront of the MotoGP standings before the series resumes at Silverstone next weekend.
He has a 10-point lead over Martin, who is in second place, and a 56-point advantage over Marquez in third, following his victories in three of the last four races over two rounds.
The double MotoGP title holder maintains that achieving victory has never been more challenging, stating, "This is the peak level of competition we've ever experienced."
"At every circuit, we're ahead by six to seven tenths. Martin is performing exceptionally well, and Marc is making commendable progress."
"Acosta, Vinales, and numerous competitors who finalized their contracts in the latter part of the season now feel liberated to compete."
Prominently, title hopeful Martin is set to continue the season with the awareness that he won't be remaining with Ducati.
The Pramac competitor was not chosen for the 2025 official team, with Marquez being preferred instead, leading him to secure a spot with Aprilia for the upcoming season.
This opens up the chance for him to bring the top spot to Ducati's competing brand in Italy.
When questioned about whether Martin would come back with even more determination, Bagnaia responded, "Jorge is an incredibly talented rider. He excels at hitting his braking points."
"In the upcoming season, his compatibility with Aprilia's motorcycle, thanks to his riding technique, will make him a strong contender. He's determined to do whatever it takes to claim my top spot."
Currently, the reigning champion for two consecutive years, Bagnaia, holds the lead in the championship.
"TNT Sports' Sylvain Guintoli described Pecco as a 'silent assassin'."
"He remains composed, serene, and in control. In Jerez, during his battle with Marquez, he shows no fear of physical confrontation."
"The upcoming competition next year promises to be exciting. It will be interesting to observe Pecco's response if Marquez outperforms him, and the other way around."
