Bagnaia and Martin Eye Title Battle Amidst Marquez Dominance at Aragon MotoGP
Francesco Bagnaia cautions, “We made significant progress today” | Jorge Martin: “My competition is not with Marc”
Francesco Bagnaia: "We made progress this afternoon and will continue to do so tomorrow."
After initially placing 21st in the opening practice session for the Aragon MotoGP, championship leader Francesco Bagnaia improved his performance significantly, finishing in sixth place by the end of the afternoon.
Marc Marquez of Gresini Ducati emerged as the fastest rider on the first day, but Bagnaia remains optimistic about improving further on Saturday.
In that case, the Sprint race could feature another showdown reminiscent of their 2021 win.
"As of now, I'm pretty relaxed since we made significant progress this afternoon," Bagnaia mentioned to MotoGP.com after finishing 0.790 seconds behind Marquez.
“There are gaps in Sector 2 and Sector 4, although we still have time to figure it out. On the other hand, we are currently performing very well in Sector 1 and Sector 3.”
"We made progress this afternoon, and we're planning to make more tomorrow. My confidence will definitely improve significantly."
Jorge Martin, who is entering this weekend only five points shy of Bagnaia, suggested that his main priority is the championship battle rather than outpacing Marquez.
"I am optimistic," Martin remarked after achieving the fourth quickest time on Friday. "I believe we are making progress and taking incremental steps forward."
"Today, only Marc and the Aprilia riders had a slight edge in speed. However, I believe most of our time loss is happening in just two specific corners. I’m optimistic that we can address this issue tomorrow, as we’re not too far behind."
“It’s not a personal competition with Marc,” he said. “Of course, he’s very skilled. I will give it my all. Winning would be great. But if I can't, I’ll still put in my best effort. It’s not about defeating him specifically…”
