**”Aragon GP: Marc Marquez’s Best Shot at Ending His Win Drought in 2024?”**
Could the Aragon Grand Prix be Marc Marquez's top opportunity for a MotoGP victory in 2024?
Our reporters share their insights.
It's been more than 1000 days since Marc Marquez secured a victory in a MotoGP race. Could he break this streak at the 2024 Aragon Grand Prix?
The rider, who has won the world championship eight times, has faced challenging years with Honda, resulting in fewer successful outcomes.
This year, his move to the Gresini-managed Ducati team has led to him securing nine podium finishes in both sprint and grand prix races. He has also come very close to achieving his first win since the Emilia Romagna GP in 2021 several times.
MotoGP is making its comeback to Aragon after a hiatus since 2022, revisiting a circuit where Marquez has historically performed exceptionally well, securing six victories throughout his career.
In the newest installment of the Crash MotoGP Podcast, our reporters explore if the Aragon circuit might be the place where Marquez can end his winless streak.
MotoGP journalist Lewis Duncan mentioned that in his opinion, the main focus for this weekend should be on Marc.
"It's a left-handed track, and Marc has always performed exceptionally well at Aragon. I believe the upcoming weeks offer him the greatest chance to secure a grand prix victory this year."
"Aragon has always been a strong point for him, perfectly aligning with his style."
"Given the year-long break and the fresh track surface, the year-old Ducati is likely to perform better right from the start compared to the factory bike, as it is generally more finely tuned."
"I have high hopes for Marc this weekend, and I'll be quite let down if he doesn't deliver because I believe this is one of the few major opportunities he'll have in the next few weeks."
In recent years, Ducati has dominated the competition at Aragon, with Marquez being bested by Francesco Bagnaia in a head-to-head battle in 2022.
"Ducati has enjoyed recent success at this venue, with Bastianini securing a victory in 2022 and Pecco triumphing over Marc in 2021," stated Jordan Moreland, the Social Media Manager at Crash.net.
"Marc now has top-notch equipment at his disposal, and he's secured victories at this track six times across various categories. Additionally, there's even a corner at this circuit named in his honor."
"While we don't want to add any pressure on Marc Marquez, it appears that this could be his chance to genuinely compete with Bagnaia."
Crash.net’s MotoGP Editor Peter McLaren mentioned that he believes it’s a fantastic opportunity for him to return to the performance levels he displayed at Jerez and Le Mans, where he was highly competitive with the leading two riders.
“Indeed, it's an excellent circuit for him. The Marquez siblings practically consider it their home race, and they consistently draw a large group of supporters there.”
"Aragon is pretty remote, but the locals have always embraced that track. Therefore, he’ll be highly motivated to perform well there, and it represents one of his best opportunities."
"There are a couple of races coming up on the anticlockwise tracks, including Valencia and Phillip Island; he's also quite skilled at Buriram."
"However, many people believed he would have already secured a victory, so this won't be an easy task for him."
"This highlights the significance of seizing these chances. Marc mentions that it's not a big deal that it's been 1000 days since his last victory; if he doesn't win this year, he'll aim to achieve it next year."
"Marc Marquez is known for his desire to win, right? This weekend seems like a promising opportunity for him to achieve that, but much will hinge on Friday's outcomes. It's not just about Marquez; other competitors like Bagnaia will also play a significant role."
"If Bagnaia leads the rankings on the first day, it's bad news for the competition."
