Aprilia Unveils Revolutionary €80,000 RSV4 X ex3ma: A Groundbreaking Bridge to MotoGP
'Pathway to MotoGP': Aprilia reveals the €80,000 ground-effect RSV4 X ex3ma
“This is the motorcycle that, without a doubt, comes closest to offering the riding experience of a contemporary MotoGP bike.”
On Friday evening during the Emilia Romagna MotoGP event, Aprilia introduced its new limited edition RSV4 X ex3ma, priced at €80,000.
According to descriptions, this motorcycle, known as 'a genuine gateway to MotoGP,' is the planet's first and only bike to feature ground-effect aerodynamics. This revolutionary technology, patented by Aprilia racing, was formerly unique to the RS-GP prototype used in MotoGP competitions.
To commemorate Max Biaggi’s inaugural 250GP world championship in 1994, a limited edition of 30 motorcycles will be produced. These bikes, which boast 230 horsepower and weigh 165 kilograms, will showcase the shiny black 'Perla Nera' livery that Aprilia’s MotoGP team sported during the 75th anniversary celebrations at Silverstone.
Max Biaggi explained that being involved in the creation of the RSV4 X ex3ma felt similar to attending the trial runs of an actual racing prototype. He compared the experience to pre-season trials, where the technical foundation for the upcoming season is established.
"In the same way, the commitment on the race track has been steadfast, aiming to create a motorcycle that offers its lucky riders the same experience as a racing prototype."
"In several ways, this motorcycle stands out, as it's the inaugural instance where an extensive configuration, incorporating various elements inspired by MotoGP aerodynamics, has been created for dedicated enthusiasts."
"I am truly satisfied with our accomplishments. The bicycle is thrilling to behold, and the Perla Nera paintwork evokes a rich historical legacy."
"Emotions ran high on the track – the downforce generated by the ground effect fairing in high-speed turns was an incredible feeling."
The fourth and most unique model in Aprilia's X series, which was first introduced in 2019, stands out due to its ground effect fairing. This feature enhances grip by utilizing the air pressure between the motorcycle and the road while cornering.
The remaining components of the aerodynamics, inspired by MotoGP, feature a newly crafted front wing, a swingarm wing (often called a ‘spoon’), and cornering wings attached to the lower section of the front fender.
The fairing is constructed completely from carbon fiber, utilizing the same methods employed in MotoGP, and is produced by PAN Compositi.
In contrast to the earlier ‘X Trenta’ model, this version boosts vertical air pressure by five times in a direct path, enhancing both stability and accuracy while decreasing the likelihood of wheelies. When navigating turns, it increases the downforce threefold, which greatly improves traction.
“This motorcycle embodies the pinnacle of our efforts to transfer the latest advancements from our racing team to our customers,” stated Romano Albesiano, the technical director of Aprilia Racing.
The concept of applying racing technology to everyday vehicles is frequently discussed, but at Aprilia Racing, it is a concrete achievement. Our team of engineers has developed a product that surpasses the already outstanding RSV4. This is particularly noticeable in its aerodynamics, which incorporate advancements usually found only in MotoGP motorcycles.
The ex3ma is the first commercially available motorcycle equipped with a full ground effect system, which boosts lateral load threefold in comparison to the earlier X model. The innovative stepped fairing and cornering wings were initially pioneered by Aprilia in MotoGP.
The front wing, inspired by MotoGP engineering, measures 550 mm in width and produces five times the downforce compared to the earlier X Thirty model. This model, which had already outperformed the road version, offers outstanding acceleration.
Notable improvements are hidden beneath, beginning with the famous APX racing ECU, which has been significantly upgraded to boost performance and ease of use.
Numerous elements, whether noticeable or concealed, have been updated or designed to be lighter. This motorcycle unquestionably provides a riding experience that is the nearest to that of a contemporary MotoGP bike.
The 1099cc, 65-degree V4 engine produces a maximum power of 230 horsepower at 13,500 revolutions per minute, with a redline of 13,900 rpm, and generates 131Nm of torque at 11,000 rpm.
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) uses the same operating methods as the RSV4 racing models and features a built-in system for collecting data.
Aprilia's APX system allows riders to fine-tune settings for wheelie control, power delivery, traction control, and engine braking for each gear. These adjustments can be made either while riding or during the bike's setup process.
A Yashi laptop comes with the bike to efficiently handle the ECU software.
The aluminum frame with twin spars is combined with Ohlins suspension that has a unique configuration, incorporating an advanced pressurized fork. Additionally, the motorcycle is equipped with Brembo brakes and rims made of carbon fiber.
Starting in September, all 30 bikes can be reserved on the website Factoryworks.Aprilia.com.
