Aprilia Ends Contract with Individual Involved in MotoGP ‘Spying’ Scandal at Austrian Grand Prix
Aprilia ends contract following 'spying' episode in Austria with contractor
In the wake of an incident involving the covert recording of competing motorcycles in the pitlane during the Austrian MotoGP, Aprilia has terminated its relationship with the contractor involved.
Aprilia has ended its relationship with the contractor involved in a 'spying' scandal during the Austrian MotoGP.
Videos on social media captured a scene where Ducati's Davide Tardozzi confronted an unidentified contractor who was audaciously recording multiple bikes up close in the pitlane with a tablet.
Despite being clad in Aprilia apparel, it's understood by Crash.net that the individual was not affiliated with the racing team, but was instead visiting the Red Bull Ring for leisure purposes.
It is believed that the tablet was his personal gadget as well.
It seems the contractor acted on his own, but the reasons behind his decision to film in that specific way remain unknown. Additionally, his former position has yet to be clarified.
Every MotoGP team employs imagery and footage of competitors' motorcycles, and it's common to spot team personnel scrutinizing the bikes of adversaries in the pit lane.
The act of filming at such close quarters undoubtedly overstepped boundaries, an action that Aprilia, reportedly enraged by the conduct of an individual donned in a team uniform, would never have approved of and responded to promptly.
