Aprilia Cuts Ties with Contractor Over Austrian MotoGP ‘Spying’ Scandal
Aprilia has ended its relationship with a contractor who was caught recording competitors' motorcycles in the pit lane during the Austrian MotoGP.
Aprilia has ended its association with the contractor involved in a 'spying' controversy during the Austrian MotoGP.
Videos on social media captured an unidentified contractor being approached by Ducati's Davide Tardozzi. The contractor had been boldly recording multiple bikes up close in the pit lane with a tablet.
Despite being dressed in Aprilia attire, Crash.net has learned that the individual was not a member of the racing crew and was at the Red Bull Ring for leisure.
It is believed that the tablet was his personal device.
Seemingly acting on his own, the reason the contractor was recording in this way remains uncertain. Additionally, his prior position has not been determined.
Every MotoGP team relies on images and footage of competitors' bikes, and it's common to spot team members scrutinizing opposing motorcycles in the pit lane.
However, filming at such a close range definitely went too far and would not have been approved by Aprilia, who reportedly became extremely angry about the conduct of an individual in team attire and took immediate action.
