Andrea Stella Criticizes ‘Distracted’ F1 Rivals Amid McLaren Rear Wing Controversy
Andrea Stella criticizes "unfocused" Formula 1 competitors regarding McLaren's disputed rear wing.
"It's beneficial for us if our rivals get sidetracked by such issues because it means they aren't concentrating on their own performance…"
Andrea Stella has responded to criticism from McLaren's competitors, accusing them of being overly "distracted" and not concentrating on their own performance in the midst of the current discussion about flexible rear wings in Formula 1.
McLaren secured yet another pole position as Lando Norris outpaced Max Verstappen to take the top spot.
Norris managed to outpace his primary F1 championship competitor by 0.2 seconds, aiming to narrow Verstappen's current 59-point advantage.
In the lead-up to the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, McLaren's rear wing has come under intense examination.
After Oscar Piastri clinched victory in Azerbaijan, videos emerged on social media showing their rear wing bending on the back straight in Baku.
The FIA has requested that McLaren make changes to it.
The team from Woking has asserted that their vehicle complies with regulations and stated that they were willing to implement a modification.
In an interview with Sky Sports after the Singapore qualifying, Stella responded firmly to inquiries about the rear wing.
The Italian asserts that the modification has no effect whatsoever.
"The impact is non-existent," stated Stella. "We witnessed it firsthand today. It's actually beneficial for us when our rivals get sidetracked by these issues because it means they're not concentrating on their own performance, which gives us an edge."
"We are entirely confident that this is somewhat of a distraction being brought up. The wing complies with regulations."
“There isn't a specific subject matter. I believe it’s simply a narrative, but it seems that everyone is searching for stories. This is beneficial for us.”
"We stay concentrated on our own performance, remain grounded, continuously provide improvements, and let our actions on the track speak for themselves."
McLaren holds a 20-point advantage in the F1 constructors' championship as they approach the race on Sunday at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
