This weekend marks the 400th Formula 1 race for Alonso, and he is celebrating the milestone.

Nonetheless, the Spanish driver will be absent at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez when the media is scheduled to interview all 20 drivers today.

Aston Martin announced the update on their X account.

Fernando Alonso is not feeling well, which means he will miss the media events at the Mexico Grand Prix. He is concentrating on recovering fully by Friday so he can rejoin the AMR24 team for the second free practice session.

According to their statement, Fernando Alonso is unwell and will not be present for the media day at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

"Fernando is concentrating on being fully prepared for Friday, aiming to make his planned comeback to the AMR24 during the second free practice session."

Alonso will have extra time to recuperate before he is anticipated to come back for the second practice session.

The Silverstone team had already planned for the two-time world champion to sit out FP1, as Felipe Drugovich is scheduled to take the wheel.

According to Formula 1 regulations, each team is required to have rookie drivers participate in two FP1 sessions during the season.

George Russell's qualifying session ended in a crash, resulting in him having to begin the race from the pit lane.

Conversely, within the initial few laps, Lewis Hamilton lost control and skidded off the track at the identical corner.

Hamilton hinted that the upgrade package might have made the W15 difficult to handle.

Allison has verified that the challenges encountered by the team at the Circuit of the Americas were due to issues with the setup.

In a video uploaded to Mercedes' YouTube channel, he commented, "We experienced a challenging weekend, but we had our new upgrades on the car, which we refer to as update 19. We were very enthusiastic about it and continue to be."

However, there were numerous unusual incidents. During Free Practice, Lewis experienced a spin. George almost lost control of the car's rear. Additionally, George had an accident during qualifying. In the race, Lewis also veered off track.

Every element we assessed indicated that the upgrade package was performing as anticipated. The downforce was present, and before the spins occurred, there were no signs of any disruption in the airflow beneath the car. We have every reason to believe the updates were effective, and we look forward to benefiting from them for the rest of the year.

"The frequent crashes into barriers were caused by the car being set too low and too rigid, which led to a significant decline in its handling performance."

Due to the sprint format, there was only one practice session, which Allison admitted contributed to Mercedes having "less time" to "fine-tune" the car.

He mentioned that due to the Sprint weekend, there was less time available to fine-tune things compared to usual.

"In the next few races, we'll learn more, as we plan to continue using the upgrade package. If the car keeps ending up off the track, we'll figure out the issue. However, I suspect that won't be the case."

"I believe that rather than experiencing another difficult weekend like the last one, we are likely to witness more of the potential that had Lewis appearing poised to secure the pole position in the Sprint Qualifying, with George also being close to the top in that session."

Following the sprint race, Mercedes identified a problem with Hamilton's vehicle, discovering that a bearing was damaged.

Although the issue was fixed for the qualifying session, Hamilton ended up being eliminated in Q1 and later spun out during the race, concluding a disappointing weekend for the seven-time world champion.

The movement was causing a clicking sound, which was linked to erratic handling. Although the issue originated in the front, it made the driver feel like the rear of the car was unstable. This sensation of looseness and unpredictability affected his performance during the Sprint race.

Allison stated that the problem was fixed before the qualifying session and did not appear again throughout the rest of the weekend.

Allison explained that they had solved the issue completely during the qualifying stage. He mentioned that they had replaced the component in question, and the issue did not recur after that.

"It was challenging for us to deal with that issue, and it made things tough for Lewis during the Sprint race. However, the problem was resolved by the time of qualifying and did not affect us afterwards."

Taking advantage of the yellow flags triggered by George Russell, Norris managed to execute one of his most impressive laps in Formula 1 when it counted the most.

On the day of the race, Norris fell to fourth place during the first lap when Verstappen tried to pass him on the inside.

Max Verstappen's maneuver resulted in Charles Leclerc taking the lead right from the first corner of the race.

In his post-race column for Sky Sports F1, Brundle dissected the race's beginning, noting that Norris achieved an impressive lap to secure pole position during the main Grand Prix qualifying, while Verstappen experienced a slight delay at turn 19.

During the last attempt in Q3, it seemed unlikely that Norris would surpass his initial performance, while Verstappen seemed poised to enhance his own time. However, the session concluded unexpectedly when George Russell took a gamble on the entry curb at turn 19 and crashed into the barriers.

His vehicle required substantial repairs and was missing some enhanced components, forcing him to begin the race from the pit lane. As the Grand Prix commenced, all the drivers took off together, and Norris realized he needed to protect the inside track heading into the initial turn. This tactic had proven effective for him the previous day. Nevertheless, he unexpectedly left enough room on the inside, which Verstappen quickly took advantage of.

Both drivers ended up veering off course at the exit, with Norris leaving the track entirely. During the first lap, the race director and stewards tend to adopt a more forgiving stance, considering the likelihood of numerous close encounters among the cars. As a result, the incident wasn’t even brought up for the stewards to discuss.

Verstappen managed to finish before Norris following a contentious event at Turn 12, which led to Norris receiving a five-second penalty.

With only five races remaining, Norris is trailing Verstappen by 57 points.

According to the regulations set by Formula 1, each of the 10 teams is allowed to let rookie drivers participate in two events during the 2024 season.

Antonelli stepped in for George Russell during the first practice session at Monza, but he suffered a significant crash shortly after starting.

The Italian teenager, who is 18 years old, is set to have another chance to drive the W15 as he gears up for his first appearance in Formula 1 next year.

Antonelli has been selected to replace Hamilton, as the seven-time world champion is set to team up with Charles Leclerc at Ferrari.

Prior to the weekend, Wolff remarked, "Mexico's high elevation poses a distinctive challenge. The engine must exert more effort, and to offset the reduced air density, we use maximum downforce."

The McLaren racer was seen passing another car off the track after Verstappen forced him to the outside.

In this case, Verstappen also veered off the track. However, as the driver being defended, he avoided a penalty because he was the first to reach the apex.

The event has sparked an extended discussion about the enforcement of regulations and overall management.

In his column for Sky Sports F1 after the race, Brundle criticized the condition of contemporary F1 tracks and urged for modifications to the regulations to make them more straightforward.

He explained that during the Austrian Grand Prix, it was evident that a straightforward gravel strip and other track elements could effectively discourage drivers from leaving the designated course, eliminating the need for high curbs that could perilously send cars airborne.

Replacing and returning this for use in motorcycle racing is costly and ineffective, but in the broader context of Formula 1, it’s not a significant expense.

"The design of the race tracks and the areas where cars can veer off contribute to the issues, while the increasingly intricate driving regulations struggle to address the resulting diverse challenges. It's not fair to hold the referees solely responsible, as that won't fix the situation. A significant revision and simplification of the driving rules are necessary."

Norris' penalty faced significant scrutiny, but it wasn't the only one under intense examination.

At the same corner, George Russell received a five-second penalty for his maneuver involving Valtteri Bottas.

Russell received a penalty despite trying to leave Bottas enough space during the turn, which is an effort Verstappen did not make when he was up against Norris.

This inconsistency was a source of frustration for Brundle.

He expressed confusion about why the previous 'let them race' strategy, which had been fairly effective, was no longer being used.

In my view, if a driver overtakes another on the inside of a turn without losing control, skidding, or leaving the track limits, they have successfully claimed the corner. This allows them to continue along the standard racing path through the exit. It then becomes the responsibility of the overtaken driver to concede the position rather than accelerating and risk veering off course.

In Austin, George Russell received what many considered an unfair penalty due to the strict enforcement of the rules. This has also happened to other drivers. Given that Russell was penalized for forcing Valtteri Bottas off the track, isn't it only fair that Verstappen should face a penalty as well for doing the same to Norris at the identical corner?

Here's another inquiry: after Norris overtook Verstappen on the outside before reaching turn 12, when Verstappen maneuvered to reclaim his position on the inside, who was actually executing the overtaking maneuver at the corner's apex—Verstappen or Norris? The situation is even more complex than it appears.

Renowned Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle believes that the sport's driving rules require significant adjustments after the controversy involving Lando Norris and Max Verstappen during the United States Grand Prix.

Norris received a contentious five-second penalty for "going off the track and gaining an advantage" while battling with Verstappen at Turn 12.

The McLaren racer was seen as having completed an overtaking move outside the track boundaries after Verstappen forced him to the edge.

In this case, although Verstappen left the track, he avoided a penalty since, as the driver defending his position, he was the first to reach the apex.

The event sparked an extensive discussion regarding the enforcement of regulations and overall management.

In his post-race column for Sky Sports F1, Brundle criticized the condition of current F1 tracks and urged for rule modifications to simplify them.

He mentioned that during the Austrian Grand Prix, it was observed that a basic gravel strip and other track elements can deter drivers from straying off the designated course, without the need for tall curbs that could dangerously propel cars into the air.

"Switching and sending this back for motorcycle racing is a financial burden, as it just isn't effective in that context. However, within the broader scope of Formula 1, it's not a major expense."

The issues stem from the design of the tracks and the areas for runoff, while increasingly complicated driving regulations are unable to address the wide range of problems that arise. It's unjust to solely fault the referees, as that won't fix the issue. There needs to be a significant revision and simplification of the driving rules.

The penalty given to Norris was not the only one that faced intense examination.

George Russell received a five-second penalty for his maneuver on Valtteri Bottas at the same turn.

Russell received a penalty despite his efforts to allow Bottas space during the turn, which contrasts with Verstappen's approach with Norris, where he did not make the same effort.

This lack of consistency was something that bothered Brundle.

He remarked that he was puzzled about what occurred to the previously effective 'let them race' strategy.

In my opinion, if you overtake another car on the inside of a turn while maintaining control, avoiding wheel lock, and staying within the track boundaries, you have successfully claimed the corner. This allows you to follow the usual racing path on the way out. It becomes the responsibility of the overtaken driver to give way, rather than accelerating and inadvertently veering off course.

In Austin, George Russell received what many considered an unfair penalty due to the enforcement of the rules. Others have faced similar consequences. If Russell faced a penalty for forcing Valtteri Bottas off the track, shouldn't Max Verstappen have also been penalized for pushing Lando Norris wide at the same corner?

Here's another question to consider: After Norris overtook Verstappen on the outside before reaching turn 12, when Verstappen surged back on the inside, who was actually executing the overtake at the apex of the corner, Verstappen or Norris? The situation is even more complex than it seems.

United States Grand Prix Marks Shift for Red Bull | "Instability Resolved"

Ted Kravitz, a commentator for Sky Sports F1, feels that the United States Grand Prix marked a "pivotal moment" for Red Bull, asserting that their "inconsistency has ended."

Max Verstappen increased his advantage in the championship standings to 57 points ahead of Lando Norris, following a strong showing throughout the weekend at the Circuit of the Americas.

Starting from pole position, Verstappen controlled the sprint race and later secured a third-place finish in the main event.

Despite needing to defend his position against his championship competitor Norris, Verstappen managed to secure a spot on the podium.

Red Bull implemented several enhancements before the weekend, and the three-week hiatus between the Singapore and USA events provided them with an excellent opportunity to analyze their challenges.

During the most recent episode of the Sky Sports F1 podcast, Kravitz shared his reasons for believing that Verstappen is poised to clinch the championship this year.

"The Bulls are back in action," he declared. "They have overcome their challenges and resolved their difficulties. They've progressed, which is why Max is set to become this year's world champion."

Matt Baker, who co-hosts the podcast, promptly noted that Verstappen completed the race 19 seconds after the victor, Charles Leclerc.

Kravitz responded by saying, "I believe that everyone assumed he was just in third place. There seemed to be a certain demeanor among the Red Bull team, as well as something particular about Max's attitude."

The manner in which Horner, the head of Red Bull, expressed himself suggested to me that they had made improvements. It seemed like over the past three weeks since the Singapore race, they had discovered something new.

"While they haven't completely reached their peak yet, Max has been outperforming Lando, accumulating more points. This seemed like a pivotal moment, signaling the end of Red Bull's instability."

Verstappen is likely to feel assured about increasing his advantage in the championship once more in Mexico City.

He has secured victories in Mexico five times before, specifically in the years 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2023

Ahead of the weekend, Red Bull rolled out several enhancements, capitalizing on the three-week interval between the Singapore and USA events to thoroughly analyze and comprehend their challenges.

During the most recent episode of the Sky Sports F1 podcast, Kravitz shared his reasons for believing that Verstappen is likely to secure the championship this year.

"The Bulls are back in action," he stated. "They have overcome their challenges and resolved their difficulties. They've progressed, which is why Max is set to be this year's world champion."

He managed to keep his position when Red Bull decided to reinforce their trust in him halfway through this season.

Since that time, Liam Lawson has stepped in for Daniel Ricciardo at RB and might demonstrate sufficient talent to earn a promotion directly to the Red Bull team by 2025.

Jenson Button commented on Sky Sports, suggesting that it seems the team is looking for a driver who can outperform Yuki Tsunoda.

"If they go through a lot of drivers who aren't faster than Tsunoda, then perhaps Tsunoda deserves a spot in the Red Bull seat!"

With both McLaren cars significantly ahead, Red Bull faced another setback in their quest to maintain their hold on the constructors' championship.

Starting from the last position on the grid because of an engine penalty, Lawson managed to make an impressive return to Formula 1 by earning points.

Liam Lawson's remarkable drive from 19th to 9th place in the United States Grand Prix has earned him significant acclaim from Helmut Marko. Marko expressed to Sky F1 Germany that Lawson "maintained control throughout and executed impressive overtaking moves." Could Lawson be set to take Sergio Perez's spot at Red Bull?

Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull, expressed his thoughts on Lawson to Sky Sports, stating, "It's a single example. He stepped in and appeared as if he had years of experience."

In response, Lawson said, “I did have a conversation with Christian and Helmut. They were upbeat and pleased, telling me ‘good job’.”

"However, that was the standard they set for me…"

Reflecting on his time in Texas over the weekend, Lawson commented, "We faced numerous challenges, and despite making significant improvements to the car on Saturday, there's always uncertainty. Racing conditions are unpredictable, and it's unclear if things will unfold as we expect."

"Having a distinct improvement in both qualifying and the race with the car is truly encouraging for me."

"My primary goal for this weekend was to feel at ease and assured while driving, and I'm pleased to have achieved that by the end."

"It's always a good feeling to be the car doing the overtaking, which was our situation today. I believe it was the challenging stint at the beginning that truly set us up for success."

The speaker expressed that their increased comfort level and time spent with the team have contributed to their performance. The team has put in significant effort over the weekend, adopting a particularly bold approach with the adjustments made, more so than what would typically be expected.

"The team has put in a lot of effort over the past few weeks to get me ready for this, and everyone has gone above and beyond to help me feel at ease."

"This weekend with the car also involved a significant amount of teamwork. I really appreciate all the efforts made to ensure I'm comfortable in the vehicle, and having it all come together successfully is truly satisfying."
