Alonso Celebrates Stroll’s Commitment to Aston Martin with New 2025 Deal Ahead of Austrian Grand Prix
Fernando Alonso praises Lance Stroll's "incredible dedication" and "strong commitment" following his recent contract renewal with Aston Martin for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Fernando Alonso expresses enthusiasm over Lance Stroll's decision to secure his near-term with Aston Martin by agreeing to a fresh Formula 1 contract.
Before the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix, Aston Martin confirmed that Stroll has extended his contract to stay on the team until "2025 and further."
Stroll has been part of the team based at Silverstone since 2019, during the time they competed as ‘Racing Point’.
Unsurprisingly, the Canadian continues to be a member of the squad, considering that Lawrence Stroll, his father, owns the team.
During a discussion with a few members of the press, including Crash.net in Austria on Thursday, Alonso praised his teammate for his strong dedication and commitment to being an F1 driver, traits which have often been scrutinized by detractors of Stroll over time.
"Alonso remarked that the individual is highly devoted and shows a strong commitment to his profession. He mentioned that the person invests a significant amount of time working in the simulator, and his residence in the UK certainly aids in this. Alonso also highlighted the ongoing discussions they have regarding the team and various aspects of the car."
"In the past couple of days, we've been in constant communication through WhatsApp following our time in Barcelona. Even on Sunday night post-Barcelona, we had a lengthy text exchange. This level of interaction is unlike any I recall having with previous teammates. He's always been incredibly forthcoming, inquiring about numerous aspects such as driving tactics, braking methods, and various tracks as well."
"I've joined this team with the intention of being involved in a significant, long-term endeavor, both professionally and personally. Even when I'm no longer racing, I hope Lance steps up to spearhead our team, and I plan to back him up even after I've stepped away from racing."
Regarding the extension, Alonso views it as a positive development for the squad, emphasizing Stroll's collaborative spirit as they aim to revitalize Aston Martin after a challenging period.
"Absolutely, it's fantastic news for our team," he continued. "Clearly, he had some considerations about his future or whatever he was anticipating, but for us, it's excellent news since he's very familiar with the team.
"He likely spent the majority of his career surrounded by the same team, except for a brief period at Williams. Having this consistent environment allows him to understand the evolution of Aston, recognizing what has improved over time or what has deteriorated. He possesses this comprehensive history."
"I've received similar feedback from various groups, so collectively, we can collaborate to identify and implement the optimal solutions. Indeed, over the past eighteen months, our partnership has flourished, which, on a personal level, I find to be extremely encouraging. It's refreshing to work alongside someone who shares a common goal of advancing the team's interests above their own. This, undoubtedly, is beneficial for the team."
