Alibaba Pledges $142 Million to Waive Delivery Fees for Hong Kong Taobao Users: A Move to Boost Q4 Sales
Alibaba plans a US$142 million campaign to eliminate shipping costs for Hong Kong's Taobao customers. Certain purchases exceeding US$14 will be eligible for free delivery in the final quarter of this year.
The quarter-year initiative encompasses sectors like apparel embellishments, gadgets, skincare, and beauty items on Taobao, as per Alibaba, the proprietor of the South China Morning Post, during a city event on Thursday.
"Hong Kong consistently ranks as a critical market for Alibaba," stated Ye Jianqiu, who heads Tmall Taobao World, a subsidiary of Alibaba's International Digital Commerce Group, during the gathering. "Our aspiration is for Taobao to genuinely evolve into a trusted companion for the people, inhabitants, and households of Hong Kong."
Alibaba's Cainiao Smart Logistics Network operates over 800 distribution points throughout the city where Taobao customers can collect their purchases, according to the company.
Alibaba chose to initiate this Hong Kong campaign in October as it aligns with the company's highest sales period in the fourth quarter, stated C.K. Chan, the leader of Hong Kong and Macau operations at Tmall Taobao World.
