Alex Rins Eager for MotoGP Comeback in Austria as Quartararo Plans to Test New Strategies
Alex Rins is optimistic about his comeback in Austria, while Quartararo plans to experiment with new strategies.
"The team is pleased to see Alex returning. For a racer, being sidelined from a Grand Prix because of an injury feels like a penalty."
After having to give up on his comeback to MotoGP racing following Friday's practice session at Silverstone, Alex Rins is optimistic about making another attempt in Austria this weekend.
The rider from Monster Yamaha withdrew from the British Grand Prix because of the injuries to his hand and foot that he suffered in Assen, in June.
"Given the discomfort I'm experiencing, the potential for more severe harm, and based on medical recommendations, I've made this choice," Rins stated then.
The Spanish rider, who has been confirmed to remain as Fabio Quartararo's teammate in 2025, has spent the time following the Silverstone race focusing on his rehabilitation.
"Rins expressed his frustration at missing the chance to race in Silverstone, but he channeled that disappointment into a determination to make a stronger comeback in Spielberg."
"I've alternated between cycling and other forms of training, while keeping in touch with healthcare professionals along the way. I'm feeling positive, so I'm thrilled to be riding my M1 once more."
Austria marks the start of a busy period on the track for Yamaha, as they plan to move directly to Misano for an exclusive testing session right after their stint at the Red Bull Ring.
The upcoming test marks the initial session out of four scheduled visits by Yamaha and Honda racing athletes to Misano within the forthcoming six weeks, which will include two racing events and an official testing day.
The Aragon Grand Prix is scheduled for the end of the month as well.
Quartararo expressed optimism about the upcoming hectic schedule, stating, "This upcoming busy stretch is beneficial for us." He reflected on the recent Silverstone weekend, noting, "Generally, the vibe wasn't the best, indicating we have improvements to make. Maximizing our laps will certainly help."
"This year, as is our tradition, we plan to experiment with new strategies, gather information, and dedicate ourselves fully in both the Sprint and the Race at Spielberg."
Massimo Meregalli, the Team Director, remarked, “To begin with, I want to express our pleasure at having Alex return. For a rider, being absent from a Grand Prix because of an injury feels like a penalty.
"Now that our initial team of riders is back in full, we're eager to start. Our crew enjoys every aspect of the Spielberg Grand Prix, from the setting and place to the overall vibe – it's all fantastic."
"This circuit boasts a somewhat distinctive design, characterized by its abrupt stops and starts and a mere eleven corners, rendering it a fascinating venue for data gathering."
Since the Red Bull Ring was reintroduced to the MotoGP schedule in 2016, Ducati and KTM are the only manufacturers to have achieved victory there.
