Alex Marquez Welcomes Rookie Aldeguer as Gresini Shake-Up Unfolds
Alex Marquez: Aldeguer is "an excellent teammate" at Gresini
"[Aldeguer] is going to be very quick. He possesses tremendous talent, and I am optimistic that we can achieve great things together."
Davide Tardozzi surprised Ducati’s satellite teams by revealing to French television that Fabio di Giannantonio will compete on a factory-spec GP25 for VR46 next season, with Franco Morbidelli joining him as his teammate on a GP24.
This situation implies that newcomer Fermin Aldeguer, who has a contract with Ducati but hasn't been assigned to a team, will join Gresini to race alongside Alex Marquez. He will take the spot of Marc Marquez, who is moving up to the factory team.
Next season, both riders from the Gresini team will be using GP24 bikes.
Alex Marquez grinned as Tardozzi let the secret slip and remarked, "Yes, it seems it will be that way."
"Undoubtedly, Aldeguer will be incredibly quick. He's highly talented, and I hope we can work well together."
"I believe he will make an excellent teammate, and we can motivate each other to improve."
Alex, who is in his second season with Gresini and racing alongside his older brother Marc, minimized the idea of taking on the role of team leader as Aldeguer gets up to speed next year.
"[Aldeguer] is going to be quick. He won't need any tips from me," Alex remarked. "I have no doubt he'll be present."
"I prefer having a rookie who is stepping up from Moto2 because they are usually very fast in the corners and such. Hopefully, we can benefit from that too."
Marquez, who is presently ranked tenth in the world championship, mentioned that he has no plans to alter his team for the upcoming season. He hinted that Aldeguer might join the former Marc Marquez team managed by Frankie Carchedi.
After placing 14th in terms of speed on the first day of the British MotoGP, Alex explained that a new configuration used in Sachsenring did not work well on the high-speed Silverstone circuit.
“We faced difficulties, particularly in the afternoon sessions rather than the morning ones. As others sped up to achieve better lap times, I couldn't find the right feeling to push harder and deliver an ideal lap,” Marquez explained.
"We've adopted a setup from Sachsenring that's quite different, but we need to make some adjustments for this track, requiring more weight on the front and additional pitching."
"I’m having a hard time, and I believe that tomorrow we should take a step back to establish our foundation, as I think it will be more effective here."
Marc clinched the last spot in the top ten, granting him direct entry to Qualifying 2.
