Alex Marquez Denies Intentional Collision with Francesco Bagnaia: ‘Not in My DNA’ Following Aragon MotoGP Incident
Alex Marquez clarified his stance, stating, "I would never intentionally collide with another rider." Marquez dismissed any claims that he purposely made contact with Francesco Bagnaia, emphasizing that such actions are against his principles and the very essence of the sport.
Alex Marquez has issued a response after seeing 'certain comments' following the Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The two riders were caught in a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no additional measures' were necessary as 'neither rider was found to be chiefly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"When I went into the next corner, which was turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating, so it was clear he was aiming for that contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I was interested in examining the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I will never accept being accused of such an act. It goes against my principles and the essence of this sport."
"The key point for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday. As far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"At this point, I need to take a break and rejuvenate so that I can be in peak condition for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major injuries and are set to race again at Misano this coming weekend.
Alex's teammate and brother, Marc Marquez, clinched victory in the Aragon race. However, with Jorge Martin securing second place, he has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
