Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Accusations Following Aragon Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez replies: "I would never intentionally collide with another racer."
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, 'It's not in my nature, nor is it in the nature of this sport.'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain remarks following his incident with Francesco Bagnaia during the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday.
The duo encountered a severe crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide exit.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was necessary because 'neither rider was found to be mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini racer maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia shared with MotoGP.com that he heard his opponent accelerating the moment he entered the next corner, indicating that the other rider was attempting to make contact.
"I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent, 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I wish to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It goes against my principles and the essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time for me to take a break and rejuvenate so I can be in top form for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape serious harm and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
Alex's team-mate and sibling, Marc Marquez, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
