Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Bagnaia, Emphasizes Integrity of MotoGP
Alex Marquez has refuted claims that he intentionally collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, "I would never purposefully cause a crash with another rider." Marquez emphasized that such actions are against his principles and the ethos of the sport.
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The duo got into a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that "no further action" was required as "neither rider was found to be mainly at fault."
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks from Bagnaia implying that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com that he heard the other rider's engine revving up as soon as he entered the next corner, indicating that the rider was accelerating and attempting to make contact.
“I wanted to examine that information… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment he had the accident. This seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion.”
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Upon reviewing various statements, I feel it is necessary to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another racer, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It goes against my principles and the principles of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now I need to take some time to rest and let my body recover so I can be at my best for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, secured victory in the Aragon race. Jorge Martin finished in second place, increasing his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
