Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision in Aragon MotoGP Incident with Bagnaia
Alex Marquez replies: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez denies any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, 'It's not part of who I am, and it's not part of the essence of this sport.'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain remarks following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The duo experienced a serious crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that there was no need for additional measures because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, implying that the Gresini racer maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Upon entering the next corner, which was turn 13, I heard his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear he was aiming to make contact," Bagnaia stated to MotoGP.com.
"I was interested in examining that data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior is against my principles and goes against the essence of this sport."
“The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters the most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved.”
"It's time to take a break and rejuvenate my body so I can be in peak condition for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
The Aragon race saw Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, take the victory. However, Jorge Martin secured second place, which has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
