Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision Claims in Aragon MotoGP Incident: ‘It Is Not in My DNA
Alex Marquez replies: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'It's not in my nature, nor is it a part of this sport's ethos.'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain remarks following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The duo experienced a severe crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide maneuver.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary as they found that neither rider was primarily at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks from Bagnaia implying that the Gresini racer maintained throttle instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Once I reached the next turn, which was turn 13, I heard his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear that he was trying to make contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I examined the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent right up until the crash. I find this behavior quite unusual for a rider."
Marquez shared on social media on Monday:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another racer and I refuse to be accused of such conduct; it's not in my nature and it goes against the principles of this sport."
"The key thing for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and as far as I’m concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to relax and rejuvenate my body so I can be fully prepared for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
In the Aragon race, Marc Marquez, who is both Alex's teammate and brother, claimed victory. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has expanded his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
