Alex Marquez Defends Integrity Following Aragon Incident: ‘Deliberate Crash Claims Are Baseless
Alex Marquez's Response: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider"
Alex Marquez dismisses claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, asserting: "That is not part of my character, nor is it part of this sport's nature."
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across several remarks following his incident with Francesco Bagnaia at the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday.
The duo experienced a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider did not try to avoid contact and instead maintained his speed.
Upon entering the next corner, which was turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating, clearly attempting to reach the point of contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I was interested in examining the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent, 40 percent of the time right up until the crash. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
“Having reviewed several statements, I want to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such an act. It goes against my principles and the values of this sport."
“The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is the most crucial thing for me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved.”
"Now I need to relax and heal so that I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, who is Alex's brother and teammate, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Jorge Martin secured second place, increasing his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
