Alex Marquez Defends Integrity Amid Aragon MotoGP Crash Controversy: ‘Not in My DNA
Alex Marquez defends himself: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez denies any claims that he 'purposely' made contact with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'It goes against my nature and the nature of this sport'
Alex Marquez issued a statement after seeing some comments following Sunday's Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia.
The duo were caught in a severe crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third spot, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because neither rider was found to be mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with remarks from Bagnaia implying that the Gresini rider maintained the throttle instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Upon entering turn 13, I heard his engine revving up. He was accelerating, clearly aiming to make contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and then at 40 percent right up until the crash. I find this behavior quite unusual for a rider."
Marquez shared on social media on Monday:
"Upon reviewing several statements, I would like to clarify the following:
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior is against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The key thing for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and, as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"It's time for me to take a break and rejuvenate so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to compete at Misano this weekend.
Alex's teammate and brother, Marc Marquez, clinched victory in the Aragon race, while Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
