**”Aleix Espargaro’s Remarkable Turnaround: Wholesale Changes Propel Him to Austrian MotoGP Sprint Podium”**
Aleix Espargaro unveils major adjustments that resulted in a podium finish in the Austrian MotoGP Sprint.
"This exemplifies why this is the greatest sport globally and why maintaining belief is crucial."
Aleix Espargaro had never placed higher than sixth in any MotoGP event at the Red Bull Ring until yesterday's Austrian MotoGP Sprint, where he secured third place.
Espargaro faced a tough beginning to his weekend as he suffered two falls within the first 15 minutes of the initial practice session at the 2a-2b chicane. This limited him to completing just 14 laps on Friday morning, ultimately placing him last on the timesheets in 25th position.
Espargaro's improved luck and performance, which earned him a spot on the Sprint podium on Saturday, were the result of numerous modifications to the bike and tweaks to his riding style.
“This is what makes this the greatest sport globally, and it's essential to always have faith,” Espargaro stated to MotoGP.com while discussing his podium finish in the Sprint race. “We put in a lot of effort yesterday afternoon, made several adjustments to the bike's setup, and even altered my riding position.”
"Additionally, after reviewing some videos with Matteo Baiocco, we decided to adjust the gear for the first chicane, opting to use second gear instead of first. There were numerous changes we made."
"I had an outstanding performance in the qualifying round, clocking an impressive lap time, and my speed in the Sprint was exceptional as well. I couldn't help but chuckle inside my helmet. This was likely one of the most memorable Saturdays of my career."
Espargaro mentioned that the layout of the Red Bull Ring is neither his preferred track nor a good fit for the Aprilia RS-GP.
"Credit to the team for their work because this isn't just about my personal preference for the track layout, but also about the bike's characteristics. The Aprilia performs best on tracks with smooth, high-speed turns, and it struggles with the kind of sharp stopping that Ducati bikes can handle easily."
"I'm thrilled with the team's efforts because the motorcycle they provided performed excellently today."
Espargaro moved up to third position after Marc Marquez fell from second place with just five laps remaining.
"[Marquez] was having an excellent race and was closing in on Pecco [Bagnaia]. I was pushing my limits, and for me, finishing in fourth place was already a great result. However, when he crashed, I moved up and took a spot on the podium."
“He took my spot on the podium in Barcelona, so now he’s giving me a little gift in return.”
