Ai Ogura Clinches MotoGP Deal with Trackhouse Aprilia for Next Season, Set to Ride 2025 Factory Bikes
Announcement: Trackhouse secures Ai Ogura for MotoGP stint
Ai Ogura is set to join the MotoGP ranks next season, teaming up with Trackhouse Aprilia, who will be fielding 2025-spec factory motorcycles.
Ai Ogura, a prominent figure in the Moto2 class, will be advancing to MotoGP for the coming season, joining forces with Trackhouse Aprilia, as officially announced.
The 23-year-old from Japan is presently ranked second in the Moto2 rankings, trailing behind his team-mate Sergio Garcia from the MT Helmets – MSi (Boscoscuro) team.
Throughout the summer hiatus, Ogura emerged as a strong contender for the Aprilia seat, although he was frequently associated with the Idemitsu-sponsored LCR Honda team led by Takaaki Nakagami.
This also involved overcoming challenges from competitors such as American champion and fellow winner in the Moto2 races, Joe Roberts.
Ogura has inked a contract for an initial term of two years and will team up with existing Trackhouse member Raul Fernandez at the American outfit next season. Meanwhile, Miguel Oliveira is anticipated to switch to the newly formed Pramac Yamaha endeavor.
Ogura and Fernandez are set to compete on 'latest model Trackhouse Aprilia RS-GP motorcycles,' as the team revealed to Crash.net, indicating they'll be using '2025 model year factory motorcycles'.
"Initially, I want to express my gratitude to everyone involved in this project and all those who have backed me," Ogura stated. "Undoubtedly, this is the ultimate goal! The last hurdle to clear. MotoGP represents the highest tier achievable, so it's clear I'm extremely thrilled to have reached this point.
I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to compete in the premier class and I'm eagerly looking forward to partnering with Trackhouse Racing MotoGP Team. It's evident that the team is highly competitive and the motorcycle is exceptionally powerful, and as a rider, my role is to utilize all my resources to the fullest.
The mindset remains constant, yet I'm thrilled to join Trackhouse and ascend to MotoGP alongside them – eagerly anticipating the commencement of 2025. Currently, my focus shifts towards contending for the Moto2 World Championship.
"I aim to conclude this year as strongly as possible and be fully prepared for 2025. Thanks to everyone and I'll see you in the new year!"
Ogura becomes the third newcomer to Aprilia for the upcoming season, as he teams up with Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi to complete an entirely fresh factory team roster.
He becomes the second rider from Moto2 to make the leap to MotoGP, following Fermin Aldeguer's confirmation to join Ducati, where he will be positioned at Gresini.
Somkiat Chantra, who is a friend and ex-teammate of Ogura, stands a chance to be one of three newcomers in next year's MotoGP lineup if he is chosen instead of Nakagami to join LCR.
