Adrian Newey Unveils Final Masterpiece with Red Bull: The RB17 Hypercar Debuts at Goodwood Festival
Adrian Newey's ultimate Red Bull vehicle, the RB17, was unveiled this weekend at Goodwood
The unveiling of the RB17 hypercar, Adrian Newey's final masterpiece with Red Bull, took place this past weekend at Goodwood.
During the weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the last car designed by Adrian Newey for Red Bull made its debut.
The RB17 stands out as an exclusive hypercar, with a limited production run of just 50 units globally.
Guided by Newey's inventive approach and in partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, it features a centrally located V10 engine.
Remarkably, when operated by skilled individuals, its capabilities are on par with Formula 1 speeds. Newey disclosed that, based on simulations, it could surpass George Russell's fastest lap time during the qualifying round at the British Grand Prix.
At Goodwood, Newey stated, “Naturally, the car is heavily influenced by its aerodynamic design because our goal was to create a vehicle that would be easy to handle for individuals who don't have much experience on the track."
"In essence, it's designed to be flexible and evolve in a way that allows the driver to improve alongside the vehicle. Based on all our simulations that include the driver's input, this car would have secured the pole position at Silverstone during the last weekend's event."
Newey is set to leave Red Bull in the early months of 2025, though it remains uncertain which team he will join next.
The 65-year-old acknowledged that initiatives such as the RB17 help maintain a sense of novelty in his role as a designer.
He mentioned that after spending many years in Formula 1, he finds it important to engage in different projects outside of the sport. This approach helps him stay motivated and prevents the monotony of the race circuit from affecting his enthusiasm. "This way, when I'm involved in F1, it doesn't feel like a repetitive cycle," he explained.
"The Valkyrie marked the beginning of such endeavors, and afterward, I began to contemplate what could come next. I wasn't interested in merely creating a Valkyrie sequel; it needed to be distinct. I mulled over this idea for a significant period.
"Over the years, I've had the fortunate opportunity to drive a wide range of cars, from those dating back to the 1960s, participating in races like the Goodwood Revival, to the latest Formula 1 cars. The thrill, velocity, and feelings experienced during those moments are truly unparalleled."
