**”Acosta Aims for Aragon Redemption After Austria Struggles; Fernandez Faces ‘Rookie’ Challenge Again”**
Pedro Acosta looks to bounce back in Aragon after a challenging weekend, while Augusto Fernandez feels like a newcomer. Acosta heads into his third home MotoGP event with hopes of recovering from his performance in Austria.
MotoGP rookie Pedro Acosta faced his most challenging weekend of the year in Austria, which also resulted in him losing top KTM rankings in the provisional world championship standings to Brad Binder.
Acosta is set to compete in his third home race at Aragon this weekend, currently holding seventh place in the rankings. He is just three points behind his future factory team-mate Brad Binder and 14 points behind Aprilia's Maverick Vinales.
The Spanish racer, aged 20, finished in 10th and 13th places in the races at the Red Bull Ring. He aims to make a strong comeback at the Aragon track, a venue he knows well and where he secured a victory in the Moto2 category during the latest 2022 Grand Prix.
"The upcoming race will be our third home event, and we will gauge our performance during Friday's initial session," stated Acosta, who has been preparing at Misano on a Moto2 bike since the Austrian race.
Austria might have been the hardest weekend of the year, and the workload on Thursday will be higher than normal.
"I dedicated two days to training in Misano, and it was beneficial for further enhancing my performance."
"One advantage of MotorLand is my familiarity with the circuit, as I've spent several days training there throughout the year, which will be beneficial for us."
"I aim to build on last weekend's performance and kick off a hectic September on a high note."
Over his first seven MotoGP races, Acosta scored an average of 14 points per race, achieving five finishes in the top three (either in Sprint or GP events). However, in his last four races, his average has dropped to just 6 points per race.
"The outcomes in the recent races have not met Pedro's expectations," stated Nicolas Goyon, the team manager of GASGAS Tech 3.
"We all know about the situation and are putting in a lot of effort to support him and provide the bike he needs to return to peak performance. We believe the Aragon track will be favorable for him."
Even though he is in his second season in the premier class, Augusto Fernandez, his teammate, will also be considered a 'rookie' this weekend since MotoGP did not race at Aragon last year.
"I am excited about competing in Aragon; it will be my debut in MotoGP, making me feel like a newcomer once more this week!" he expressed.
"I really like this track; I've always performed well here before, and it feels almost like a home race to me."
"I am eagerly anticipating this round, and I hope we receive strong support from the Spanish fans."
The Aragon circuit has been repaved following the 2022 event.
