David Alonso shared an important piece of guidance he received from MotoGP legend Marc Marquez as he prepares for his initial championship-winning opportunity in the 2024 Moto3 competition.

This weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix, the 18-year-old racer has his inaugural opportunity to clinch the 2024 Moto3 world championship, arriving in Motegi with a 97-point lead in the standings.

Having triumphed in both the Red Bull Rookies Cup and the European Talent Cup, Alonso aims to exit Motegi with at least a 100-point lead to secure the Moto3 title in only his second grand prix racing season.

Securing a victory in Japan would clinch the championship for Alonso, simultaneously aligning him with Joan Mir's win tally during his 2017 Moto3 championship campaign. Furthermore, an additional win would enable him to equal Valentino Rossi's historic record of 11 wins in a single season in the lightweight class.

This year, Alonso has somewhat been mentored by eight-time world champion Marc Marquez, who has been providing guidance to the young Aspar racer.

Inquired about the approaching victory statistics during Thursday's event in Motegi, Alonso commented, "The figures are certainly impressive, yet I make an effort to avoid dwelling on them too much while riding."

"Concentrate on what I'm saying because it's really significant to me. Take, for instance, a dream I've had since my childhood… there's a video where someone inquires, 'what's your dream?'"

"Usually, the common advice is to aim for MotoGP. However, I declined, expressing my aspiration to secure victories across different classes instead of directly advancing to MotoGP. This is because I place great importance on concluding a chapter and embracing the journey of competing for a world championship in any given class."

"I believe it offers a truly pleasant experience, providing ample learning opportunities in this context."

"Additionally, Marquez imparted wisdom, emphasizing that securing a championship holds more value than just making it to MotoGP for any reason."

This year, Alonso has been receiving guidance from several leading MotoGP riders, mentioning that he always makes an effort to converse with them at races because they are in the top tier "for a reason".

"It's beneficial because we're all gathered here, so whenever I'm around these guys, I make an effort to pay close attention and absorb as much as I can, given they've made it to MotoGP for good reasons," he further stated.

"I often seek guidance from those who have previously navigated my current path, as emulating their steps can be beneficial."

In the Aspar setup, Alonso possesses valuable experience to rely on as he seeks to secure the championship this weekend.

The present sports director, Nico Terol, clinched the 125cc world title in 2011 racing for Aspar, whereas the team's proprietor, Jorge Martinez, has amassed numerous championships both as a competitor and as a team leader.

"This is an unfamiliar scenario for me," he expressed, referring to his decisive championship moment.

"Thus, I'm making an effort to hear out everyone in my team."

"Nico, for instance, who achieved it back in 2011. Moreover, Jorge will be joining to lend us support. I've been advised to aim for a regular weekend."
