Jorge Martin Battles Bike Challenges in Complex Japanese GP Practice: Aiming for Improvements Ahead of Race Day

Jorge Martin, who currently tops the MotoGP championship standings, described Friday's practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix as "challenging" due to difficulties he faced with his motorcycle while attempting to perform various tasks.
On Friday at Motegi, the Pramac racer stood out on the timing charts during both sessions. Martin secured the second-fastest time in the wet FP1 and ended up third overall following the second practice.
Martin mentioned that he was facing significant difficulties with the front-end feel of the GP24 Ducati and appeared to be dealing with tire wear issues during his extended rides.
"It was an unusual day due to the weather predictions," he mentioned.
"The morning session was challenging due to the wet conditions from the slick surfaces and raindrops."
"This afternoon turned out to be more complex than initially anticipated."
"I began on a strong note, but then encountered difficulties with the bike as I attempted to manage everything."
"I had significant difficulties with the feel of the front, and the rear was also losing stability considerably."
"We should put in a lot of effort, although probably not tomorrow since the forecast predicts rain. However, by Sunday, we need to achieve significant progress."
Martin mentioned that on Friday, he experimented with a setup different from his usual one, aiming to enhance the braking performance at the stop-and-go Motegi circuit.
However, the results were not as successful as he had anticipated, and he mentioned that he would probably revert to his usual settings for the remainder of the weekend.
"We haven't located what I'm searching for," he remarked.
"Our focus was on improving our braking performance, as it's crucial for competitiveness at this venue."
"However, I didn't feel very confident while navigating through the turns and during the midpoint of the corners."
"I believe we will return to a traditional setup that usually proves effective, and from there, we'll explore different approaches."
Franco Morbidelli, who is part of the Pramac team, will compete in Q1 during Saturday morning's qualifying session, having finished Friday with the 13th quickest time.
