Marc Marquez Battles Mysterious Issues: A Tough Friday at the Japanese Grand Prix

Published

on

Marc Marquez describes it as "one of the most challenging Fridays," yet he chooses not to share specifics. Despite facing difficulties, Marquez clocks in as the second-fastest during practice sessions in Japan.

Marc Marquez stated that he faced "several issues" during Friday's practice session at the MotoGP Japanese Grand Prix, even though he ended up with the second-best time.

The Gresini Ducati racer came very close to securing the fastest time during Friday's hour-long afternoon session, but Brad Binder edged him out by a mere 0.033 seconds.

Marquez's impressive speed on a single lap couldn't hide the issues he was experiencing with the bike during the second practice session. At one point, the eight-time world champion was noticeably upset while in the Gresini garage.

Reflecting on his day, Marquez remarked, "The day was unusual, primarily due to the weather conditions."

"In the afternoon, we experienced an unusual practice session that was marked by a series of minor issues."

"However, we couldn't carry out our tasks as usual."

"We lack understanding when it comes to the tires, but luckily, during the time attack, I felt comfortable and managed to maintain a high speed. However, I now need to work on being consistent."

When asked about the specifics of his difficulties, Marquez was evasive. However, during his debrief in Spanish, he mentioned that braking was one of the challenges he faced.

When questioned about the issues he faced, he responded with "a lot of things."

"I can't provide specifics, but we encountered a few minor issues. Nonetheless, it was a crucial practice session."

"As a result, I understood the significance of participating in Q2."

"The primary reason I spent so much time in the garage was to ensure thorough preparation, address any issues, and focus on executing the time attack effectively."

The team leader for Marquez, Frankie Carchedi, shared on social media that it was one of the most challenging Fridays this year.

"Everything seemed to be failing, but I managed to sort out some issues in the last ten minutes."

The Gresini team saw both of their riders advance directly to Q2 for Saturday's qualifying session. Alex Marquez secured eighth place by the conclusion of the second practice session, thanks to a late surge that resulted in a lap time of 1 minute 44.033 seconds. This performance allowed him to move ahead of the VR46 Ducati riders, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marc Bezzecchi.
