Recovery in Progress: Oliveira’s Absence Continues as Savadori Steps In for Phillip Island MotoGP

Miguel Oliveira is recovering well, but there is still no set date for his return to MotoGP racing. In the meantime, Lorenzo Savadori will continue to fill in for him at the Phillip Island race for the Trackhouse team.

Aprilia's test rider, Lorenzo Savadori, is set to stand in for Miguel Oliveira at the Australian MotoGP event taking place at Phillip Island this weekend.

Oliveira had to have an operation due to several breaks in his right wrist. These injuries occurred after he was ejected from his Aprilia motorcycle because of a malfunction in the traction control system while he was practicing at Mandalika.

The Trackhouse team reports that the Portuguese driver is currently receiving physiotherapy and is focused on regaining full mobility in his wrist. The goal is for him to recover quickly and return to racing soon.

Miguel's recuperation is progressing positively, and he is scheduled for a follow-up evaluation with his healthcare providers next week.

Currently, there isn't a scheduled date for his comeback to racing. Everyone at Trackhouse is hoping he recovers quickly and can get back to riding in the near future.

During his trip to the Portuguese WorldSBK event at Estoril last weekend, Oliveira expressed his desire to return for the season-ending race in Valencia. He aims to say goodbye to Trackhouse and then participate in the post-race test, marking his debut with Pramac Yamaha.

"Regrettably, Miguel will not be joining us as he is still in the process of recovering," stated Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse team. "However, we are closely watching his day-to-day improvements to determine when he might return."

With Oliveira still not present, Aprilia's test rider, Lorenzo Savadori, is set to join Raul Fernandez at Trackhouse this weekend. Savadori expressed his sentiments saying, "Above all, I wish Miguel a swift recovery. As for me, I haven't raced in Australia since 2018, back when I was part of the Aprilia team in the Superbike World Championship."

"I'm excited about the track and eagerly looking forward to testing our Aprilia RS-GP on this amazing circuit."

"Naturally, our efforts to advance the 2025 bike must go on, so at Phillip Island, similar to our approach at Motegi, we'll be testing various options. I am eager to return to this circuit and collaborate once more with the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP team."

The Phillip Island track, known for its rapid and smooth design, has typically been favorable for the RS-GP. However, during last year's Saturday grand prix, Aleix Espargaro was the top Aprilia rider, finishing in eighth place.

Fernandez, who was competing on a bike from the previous year for RNF, finished in 16th place.

Fernandez expressed his excitement about traveling to Australia, particularly highlighting the Philip Island Circuit. He described the track as unique, featuring numerous high-speed turns, which he finds particularly enjoyable. Since they only visit this location annually, Fernandez is determined to perform at his highest level and make the most of the experience.

Historically, this track has been favorable for Aprilia, so my goal is to earn points to conclude the final segment of the season on a high note.
