Quartararo’s Quest: Navigating Phillip Island’s Challenges as MotoGP Season Speeds By

Fabio Quartararo remarked, "The season seems to be passing swiftly." His highest achievement in MotoGP at Phillip Island so far is securing the 14th position.

When it comes to outcomes, Phillip Island has proven to be one of the most challenging locations for 2021 MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo.

In the rescheduled Saturday grand prix last year, the Monster Yamaha rider finished in 14th place, marking the first time he completed the race in the premier class. Previously, he had crashed in the Australian events held in 2019 and 2022.

Despite a strong qualification, securing second and fifth positions on the grid for both races labeled as 'DNF,' last year the M1 rider started in 17th place, while his teammate Franco Morbidelli began from 20th.

Prior to his MotoGP career, the French racer achieved his highest placement at Phillip Island with a tenth-place finish in both the Moto2 and Moto3 categories.

Given these circumstances, this may not be the best setting for Quartararo to attempt to overcome the rear grip issues (and fuel shortage) that resulted in him finishing a far-off twelfth place in the Motegi Sprint and GP races, where he was losing more than a second per lap to the race winner.

Despite recent victories by manufacturers, Australia has managed to maintain a 'neutral' stance.

In the most recent four races at Phillip Island, different winners have emerged: Maverick Vinales for Yamaha in 2018, Marc Marquez for Honda in 2019, Alex Rins for Suzuki in 2022, and Johann Zarco for Ducati in 2023.

Following the Japanese Grand Prix, I traveled to Bali to soak up the sun, unwind, and also to keep up with my training in preparation for the upcoming races. I chose to remain in a nearby time zone to reduce the effects of jet lag, as maintaining peak fitness is crucial during triple-header events," explained Quartararo, who equaled his top performance of seventh place in the three races leading up to Japan.

"The season is speeding up unexpectedly: with just four Grand Prix races remaining, there's still plenty for us to accomplish."

"We're looking forward to having a typical and, importantly, full race weekend here in Australia this time, as the Australian fans consistently create a great atmosphere."

With four rounds remaining last season, Quartararo was positioned three spots higher in the world championship standings and had accumulated 48 more points compared to his current 13th place ranking.

Nonetheless, he holds a 50-point lead over Zarco, who is the leading Honda rider.

Rins, who has previously won at Phillip Island and was unable to attend last year's race while recovering from leg injuries, has finished on the podium three times at the coastal circuit.

Following a week-long pause, we're prepared to get back into action. I have fond memories of the Phillip Island Circuit as it aligns well with my strengths, so let's see what we can achieve," expressed Rins, who was 'heartbroken' to end up in 16th place, finishing only ahead of wild-card entrant Remy Gardner in Japan.

"Certainly, there's plenty of work ahead for us. We are optimistic about getting favorable weather, which would allow us to concentrate on improving the motorcycle."

Rins, who was unable to participate in two races in the middle of the season because of injuries, currently holds the 19th position in the world championship standings
