Petrucci’s Podium Apology: Reflecting on Marquez’s Unjust Boos at Italian MotoGP
"It frustrates me – I said sorry to Marc Marquez."
"I expressed my regret to him because of my emotions. I felt embarrassed."
Danilo Petrucci previously expressed regret to Marc Marquez on the podium because Italian supporters had jeered at him.
In 2019, Petrucci clinched victory at the Italian MotoGP held in Mugello, finishing ahead of Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso.
Marquez faced a chorus of boos from the hometown supporters who still remembered his past clash with Valentino Rossi.
During this season, after triumphing in Misano, Marquez faced jeers from the crowd, but it was Pecco Bagnaia who stepped in to support him.
“This behavior doesn’t belong in this sport,” Petrucci commented to MOW Mag regarding the booing.
"It means overlooking the fact that a motorcyclist puts their life on the line every time they ride."

"Actually, I was expressing my regret to him for how I was feeling."
Despite being overwhelmed with happiness at that moment, I experienced a sense of shame.
"Indeed, I did say sorry to him. If I could, I would remove those boos from that memorable day."
"This is a situation unique to Italy; in other countries, the cyclists are never booed."
Marquez continues to face negative reactions in Italy, despite the fact that he is currently associated with an Italian company.
At Misano this year, Bagnaia signaled to the audience to cease their booing, and subsequently criticized the behavior.
Petrucci expressed his gratitude for Pecco's act on the Misano podium and expressed his hope that it would be the final instance of such a gesture.
"Additionally, if they believe that whistling at Marc Marquez will scare him, they're mistaken; it only fuels his determination."
"They hand him some spare change while whistling a tune…"
