During the warm-up lap, an insect collided with Marquez's helmet visor. However, as Marquez was busy with the pre-race routines required to prepare a contemporary MotoGP motorcycle for the start, he found himself short of time to peel off his visor's tear-off to improve his visibility.
Thus, he found himself with no other option than to peel off the tear-off once he had halted on the grid.
The piece of paper spiraled down, landing directly beneath the back wheel of Marquez's Ducati Desmosedici GP23.
The outcome was the hazy beginning that has circulated widely on social media numerous times by this point.
Marquez initially fell to the 13th position but managed to make a stunning comeback to clinch victory, overtaking the then-leader in the championship standings, Jorge Martin, just one lap before the final to claim his fourth top-tier win at Phillip Island. This track is among the few left in the MotoGP schedule known for emphasizing the rider's skill over the motorcycle's capabilities in determining the race outcome.
"Lewis Duncan from Crash.net described it as a classic [Marc] Marquez performance."
"This marked the initial instance we witnessed the return of the 'classic' Marquez in form—sure, there was his commanding victory at Aragon, but that seemed more situational."
The beginning, marked by the removal of the protective film, […] saw him ending up with a large mosquito smeared across his helmet's protective screen, without a moment to clear it away. Regrettably, the wind caused the discarded film to slide under his back tire — it's a situation we might find amusing, yet it had the potential to lead to a grave mishap.
Bagnaia narrowly avoided a collision, found himself in 13th position at the first turn, and then remarkably advanced to 6th place after just a few turns.
"The most astonishing aspect, truly, was how he handled the Desmosedici GP23, which significantly differs from the GP24. Remarkably, Marquez managed to ride it as though he was on a standard factory bike."
"Now, everyone is turning their attention to the coming year, wondering, 'What is his potential on a GP25?'"
"I believe this is the initial weekend where we've truly observed that opportunity arise. This demonstrates his capabilities on a GP23, which is significantly restrained and inherently faces a number of issues. We're aware it tends to understeer significantly, and the engine's braking behavior is quite distinct compared to the GP24."
"What's in store for him in the upcoming year? This question might raise concerns for everyone, including Francesco Bagnaia, as we head into next year."
Crash.net's MotoGP Editor, Peter McLaren, commented on the victory, highlighting it as a testament to Marquez's unique style: "This victory was quintessentially Marquez, wasn't it? In fact, it seems like all his victories this season have been in true Marquez fashion, haven't they?"
"Questionable pavement, a touch of precipitation in Misano, and now on a genuine racer's circuit, he achieves this significant gap.
"It was indeed [Marc] Marquez who stood out, wasn't it? The victory on Sunday wasn't due to the GP23; it was all thanks to Marc."
"He's successfully checked off a significant goal he set for himself at the beginning of the year, questioning, 'Do I still possess the skill?'"
The observation here is that Marc excels in scenarios and on circuits where he has previously shown exceptional performance. This consistency is a clear signal that others should be concerned about competing against him in the coming year.
"I believe that throughout the season, he will also aim to excel at certain circuits — with several approaching — where he hasn't typically performed well."
"He's mentioned the importance of high grip before, and it became evident during the rounds at Misano, where he seems to lag slightly."
"He likely desires to view himself as the ultimate piece fitting into next year's puzzle, aiming to be much nearer to the leading competitors in challenging scenarios, perhaps."
"Apart from that minor issue, it was a perfect performance and classic Marquez [at Phillip Island]."
