Marc Marquez’s Miraculous Victory at Australian GP: Overcoming a Visor Tear-Off Fiasco
Clarified: The peculiar incident involving a visor tear-off that almost affected Marc Marquez
Marc Marquez sheds light on the visor tear-off situation during the Australian MotoGP
Marc Marquez has clarified the reason he had to discard the protective tear-off from his helmet, a move that nearly caused him to lose the MotoGP Australian Grand Prix due to a disastrous beginning.
At the beginning of the 27-lap Phillip Island Grand Prix, the Gresini rider experienced significant wheelspin, causing him to rapidly lose positions in the race order.

Starting from the second position, Marquez dropped to as low as 13th place on his GP23 at the first turn, but rapidly climbed back up to secure the sixth spot.
Marquez eventually took on and overcame Jorge Martin, who had been leading the race for an extended period, in an exciting showdown, surpassing the Pramac competitor.

In the parc ferme area, Marquez mentioned that he typically avoids taking off a visor tear-off while on the starting grid, citing safety concerns.
However, as he positioned himself on the starting line, a large object hit his face shield, prompting him to swiftly remove the protective tear-off. Unfortunately, it ended up wedged under his back tire when he tossed it aside.
This caused him to spin his wheels significantly when starting, almost causing him to miss out on his third Formula 1 victory of the year.
"Something always occurs," Marquez stated right after the event.
"I always avoid using the tear-off at the beginning since it poses a risk."
This time, as I engaged the bike's rapid start mechanism, something incredibly large loomed before my eyes.
"I didn't get the opportunity to consider it. I removed it.
"Unfortunately, it ended up beneath my tire. I noticed and attempted to dislodge it, but that proved to be futile."
"As I let go of the clutch, it began to rotate."
"I'm not sure of my position at the initial turn, but I managed to pass a significant number of riders."
"I believed catching Martin was out of the question, but around laps five or six, I found myself more relaxed. I conserved the tire for a final push."
Marquez mentioned that the riders have an informal pact to minimize the discarding of visor tear-offs on the track for safety reasons.
A notable incident occurred at Misano in 2020 involving discarded visor tear-offs leading to trouble when Fabio Quartararo's tear-off was ingested by Jack Miller's Ducati, ultimately forcing the Australian out of the race.
"Ultimately, I accept responsibility, as it's more of an unwritten agreement among us riders to refrain from discarding tear-offs on the grid, for one's own benefit as well as for the others," he clarified.
"This time, I was left with no other option."
Michael Laverty of TNT Sports believes Marquez faced an unfortunate incident when an insect flew into his visor at the starting line, marking a 'rookie error' to 'best win' moment on a Ducati.
"Usually, when dealing with a fly, as you exit the grid, you would remove the tear-off, placing it behind the grid," explained Laverty.
"He engaged the descending mechanism at the machine's forefront. Approaching his designated area, he aimed to eliminate the insect."
He removed the perforated part, but sadly, the wind swept it beneath his motorcycle.

"He handled it with great skill."
Laverty mentioned, "He was unable to remove his tear-off while approaching the grid."
He accidentally let it fall beneath his bicycle, a mistake commonly made by beginners. This happened because he triggered the device located at the bottom.
"I'm unsure how he navigated his first-lap clash with Enea Bastianini."
"He surged through the field with unwavering strength, truly powerful."
The victory-sealing maneuver originated from a long way back. He made a bold move on the inside, causing Jorge to veer slightly off track. Following this, he executed three powerful laps to gradually extend his lead.
"He emerged as the clear winner. An incredible return to form – his finest performance on a Ducati to date."
On the 25th lap out of 27, Marquez made a bold maneuver by aggressively overtaking Martin on the inside at Turn 4, causing the Pramac rider to drift slightly off his line.
His victory at the Australian Grand Prix is his initial triumph at Phillip Island since 2019, and it signifies the first occasion he has achieved three grand prix wins in a season since 2021.
Crossing the finish line in a far-off fifth place, Enea Bastianini now finds Marc Marquez extending his lead to 14 points ahead of the Ducati team's rider, who is currently third in the championship standings.
