Marc Marquez Advocates for Patience with Rising Moto3 Star David Alonso: ‘A Great Champion in the Making
Marc Marquez advises against placing any pressure on the talented David Alonso, whom he describes as a "great champion." Marquez has expressed his admiration for David, saying, "I'm in love with David."
Marc Marquez expressed his admiration for the newly crowned Moto3 world champion David Alonso. He also advised that MotoGP should avoid placing too much expectation on Alonso, giving him the necessary time to develop his skills.
The Colombian racer, aged 18, has quickly become a standout talent in grand prix racing. During his first year in Moto3, he impressively secured four victories, ultimately finishing third overall in the rankings.
This year, Alonso has been the standout performer in Moto3 with the Aspar team, securing victory in 10 out of the 16 grand prix events held to date. He clinched the world championship last weekend in Japan, with four races still remaining.
In recent months, Marquez has been a staunch advocate for Alonso. He has once more expressed admiration for the Moto3 champion, who is set to advance to Moto2 next year with the Aspar team.
Marquez expressed his affection for David, highlighting his admiration for David's quickness and exceptional talent.
"He is down-to-earth and has a lot of charisma. In my opinion, he has the potential to become – and I would wager that he will become – an outstanding champion. While he is already a remarkable champion, his future achievements could elevate him even further."
"However, now is the moment to simply appreciate it; the child requires some time."
"Next year, he is likely to make some errors in Moto2, but don't put too much pressure on him since he's still very young."
"I hope and wish that he can reach the highest level in MotoGP."
Earlier this year in Spain, Marquez referred to Alonso as a "sponge" after they spent a track day together. He attributed this nickname to Alonso's skill in absorbing feedback and putting it into practice.
Current two-time MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia shared insights into how diligent Alonso is in his ongoing progress as a racer.
Following Alonso's victory in the world championship, Bagnaia mentioned that he inquired about what he was having for breakfast.
In Aragon, he inquired about my pre-race meal.
On Sunday in Japan, he inquired about my breakfast choice.
"He seems to be considering all these aspects, which is not common among younger riders. This is impressive."
Alonso secured his 10th victory of the season, equaling the number of wins Joan Mir achieved in 2017 when he clinched the Moto3 championship. Alonso is now just one victory shy of the lightweight class record of 11 wins in a single season, a milestone set by Valentino Rossi in 1997.
