JD.com’s Apology and Damage Control in Wake of Backlash from Singles’ Day Campaign Featuring Controversial Comedian
JD.com has issued an apology to its customers following a backlash over a Singles' Day promotion featuring comedian Yang Li. The negative response to Yang Li indicates that JD.com failed to consider the ongoing harassment she receives from male internet users.
JD.com declared on a Chinese social media platform that it currently has no further collaborations planned with Yang. The company promises to increase the number of coupons and discounts during its promotional campaign to show appreciation for the loyalty and support of its customers.
JD.com has also removed a post from Monday on Weibo that called for users to participate in a live-stream hosted by Yang that same day. Her assignment was to endorse health products for the platform.
Promotional content on Weibo, spotlighting five other Chinese stand-up comedians who handle different categories on the platform, was still available on Weibo as of Friday.
