Fabio di Giannantonio Set to Race in Australia Despite Shoulder Concerns: ‘Not at 100% but Ready to Compete

Fabio di Giannantonio will continue competing: “I underwent additional medical evaluations”

“I've had further medical evaluations, and I'm not feeling completely at my best, so it will be challenging to handle.”

Fabio di Giannantonio is on his way to Australia and appears likely to finish the 2024 MotoGP season.

After the race in Motegi, the VR46 Ducati racer attended a significant medical evaluation to assess the state of his left shoulder, which had been dislocated earlier.

Opting out of the last rounds to have surgery and ensure full fitness for the 2025 pre-season testing was an option.

Despite not being fully recovered, di Giannantonio is set to return to racing as the final flyaway triple header kicks off at Phillip Island this weekend.

"Di Giannantonio expressed that he felt improved in Motegi, both in terms of his bike performance and his physical condition. He returned home and dedicated the week to resting and recuperating after securing eighth place in the Japanese MotoGP."

"I underwent additional medical evaluations and I'm not fully recovered yet. Concluding this season will present challenges, but I'll still compete and strive to perform at my highest level to catch up with the leading riders."

A year ago, Phillip Island marked a significant milestone for Diggia as he achieved his first podium finish in MotoGP. This accomplishment, paired with a subsequent win in Qatar, ensured his continued presence in the MotoGP circuit by earning him a spot with VR46.

"The Phillip Island track stands out for its distinctiveness in every aspect. It's one of my top picks because of its speed and the fond memories I have there," he expressed.

In 2023, I achieved my first top-three finish in MotoGP, an unforgettable moment, particularly because it occurred during a crucial phase of my professional journey.

With four races remaining, di Giannantonio is tied with his teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, for ninth place in the world championship standings.

Last season at Phillip Island, Bezzecchi finished sixth in the Saturday grand prix after narrowly defeating Di Giannantonio by less than a second at Motegi.

Bezzecchi described Phillip Island as a track that offers a thrilling experience due to its high-speed nature, particularly in the last sector, and its stunning scenery. He noted that, as usual, the weather will present challenges, including wind, cold, and rain, which are factors that must be considered during the event.

In Japan, our performance was commendable. While we might not have been as strong as we were in Mandalika, we still secured good finishes. Despite the variations in grip conditions, we succeeded in staying closer to the leading competitors.

"Let's keep going in this manner; we have three challenging weeks ahead, but we have the potential to progress further."
