Alibaba Forecasts Double-Digit Sales Growth in Hong Kong for Singles’ Day, Bolstered by $142M Free Shipping Promotion
Alibaba anticipates a significant increase in sales for Singles' Day in Hong Kong. This optimistic forecast is due to a US$142-million campaign that eliminates shipping charges for specific purchases made by Taobao customers in the city.
David Ye Jianqiu, the general manager of Tmall Taobao World, which is a part of Alibaba International Digital Commerce Group (AIDC), has stated that Taobao, the biggest online shopping outlet in mainland China, has so far seen a significant yearly increase in both total sales value and order numbers in Hong Kong, thanks to a promotional campaign.
"Ye revealed in a press conference on Thursday that the response to the complimentary shipping scheme has been largely favorable. He also expressed his optimism about Taobao's annual GMV growth reaching two figures in the city during their Singles' Day promotion."
Ye stated that over half of Hong Kong's population are now Taobao users, making the city a vital market for Alibaba.
