Yamaha’s Strategic Shake-Up: Quartararo’s Brilliance Masks Underlying Issues as New Talent Joins 2025 Line-Up
Yamaha acknowledges that Fabio Quartararo's exceptional talent masks underlying issues. In 2025, they plan to include two seasoned riders in their team.
Yamaha has acknowledged that Fabio Quartararo's talent and flexibility might complicate their efforts to pinpoint issues.
Over the past two seasons, Yamaha has relied on only two racers in MotoGP to support their development efforts.
Quartararo's exceptional ability to handle a less-than-ideal bike can occasionally create challenges for his teammates in the garage.
"There is a potential issue when you have skilled racers such as Fabio, who easily adjust and mask underlying challenges," said technical director Max Bartolini to Sky.
"We are aiming to gather as much information as we can from Alex Rins once he recovers, as well as from additional sources."
Andrea Dovizioso has joined Yamaha's testing team to fill in for Cal Crutchlow, who is currently injured.
Dovizioso has minimized the possibility of staying with Yamaha on a full-time basis, however.
Bartolini expressed uncertainty by saying, "I'm not sure if Dovizioso will be the one to assist us."
"We've only conducted two tests so far, and we need to evaluate how the partnership will progress."
"He is typically a cyclist who has a good grasp of overall requirements and contributes to creating bikes that have consistently been effective for a wide range of people."
Next season, the inclusion of the Pramac satellite team will provide Yamaha with two additional motorcycles, allowing them to collect more data.
They have brought on board seasoned grand prix victors Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira.
Miller, who has raced for Honda, Ducati, and KTM, along with Oliveira, who has competed with KTM and Aprilia, both have extensive experience with Yamaha's competitor teams.
Bartolini mentioned that he has consistently maintained good relationships with the riders.
"Having a diverse group of riders will definitely be beneficial, and it will be our responsibility to make the most of their individual strengths."
"If we manage to combine all the elements, success should be within our reach."
In the future, Yamaha intends to launch a V4 engine, similar to those employed by their main competitors.
