Toyota Stays Firm on F1 Absence Despite New Haas Partnership
Toyota has decided against supplying power units to Formula 1 or returning as a full-time team, even in light of their agreement with Haas.
Toyota has stated that they do not intend to re-enter Formula 1, either as a supplier of power units or as a full-fledged team, even though they have recently established a technical collaboration with Haas.
On Friday morning, Haas announced a fresh collaboration with the Japanese company Toyota.
Toyota's final Formula 1 participation occurred in 2009 before they decided to withdraw from the competition.
Throughout their 140 Formula 1 races, they did not secure a single victory but managed to achieve 13 podium finishes.
Over the coming years, Toyota is set to support Haas with various technical aspects, whereas Ferrari will still play a crucial role as a partner.
Masaya Kaji, who is the general manager of motorsport engineering at Toyota Gazoo Racing, has stated that they have no intentions of re-entering Formula 1, whether as an engine supplier or as a complete team.
"Currently, we have no intentions of becoming a supplier of power units," he stated.
"Currently, there is no intention to form an F1 team. Right now, collaborating with Haas is the most favorable and optimal decision for us."
Haas team leader Ayao Komatsu highlighted several crucial aspects in which Toyota can offer immediate assistance to the team.
During an interview with Crash.net at the Dutch Grand Prix last August, Komatsu stated that without proper investment, the team could only aim as high as seventh place in the constructors' championship.
Komatsu clarified that this is a long-term initiative. He stated, "We chose specific projects to begin with because it's clear where we have deficiencies and where we lack the necessary skills. Additionally, we identified areas where TGR already possesses strong capabilities."
"We are clearly prioritizing the project that has the most significant influence and immediate necessity."
"I believe that as this partnership progresses, our mutual understanding will deepen, allowing us to collaborate on numerous projects."
