In the morning warm-up session for the 2024 Japanese MotoGP, Francesco Bagnaia, the victor of the Motegi sprint, narrowly edged out his championship competitor Jorge Martin by a mere 0.005 seconds.
Following Saturday's rainfall, an improved weather outlook is anticipated for Sunday, featuring a ten-minute period of warming under clear and sunny skies.
Enea Bastianini, securing second place in the Sprint, along with Pedro Acosta, who experienced a fall while leading, and Marc Marquez, who impressively climbed from ninth to third, were among the top five finishers in the warm-up session. This session saw riders fine-tuning their performance with the medium rear tyre, gearing up for the 24-lap grand prix scheduled later in the day.
Bagnaia's victory on Saturday cut down Martin's lead in the world championship to just 15 points. The Pramac competitor, managing to secure fourth place in the Sprint, faces the challenge of beginning from the eleventh position on the grid once more, following a crash during qualifying.
Miguel Oliveira is sidelined due to a broken right wrist sustained in Mandalika, with Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori stepping in as his replacement at Trackhouse.
Remy Gardner, a familiar face in the World Superbike circuit, is participating in his third event of the year for Yamaha, entering as a wild-card at the manufacturer's home event.
