Surge in Taiwanese Visitors and Residents: A Testament to Successful Cross-Strait Policies
Beijing praises its cross-strait strategies as visits and residency applications from Taiwan see significant increase
Nearly a million travel permits and 3 million visits from Taiwanese this year indicate effective cross-strait policies, according to experts
This updated version provides the corrected figure for the number of Taiwanese visitors to mainland China this year.
Experts indicated that the increase was propelled by a mix of supportive policies and economic prospects designed to strengthen connections across the Taiwan Strait.
Last week, the National Immigration Administration reported that close to 994,000 Mainland Travel Permits for Taiwan Residents have been issued this year.
According to administration spokesperson Zhang Ning, who spoke on Friday, the statistic reflects a 14.5 percent rise from the previous year and also surpasses the figures recorded in the same timeframe in 2019, a year before the pandemic.
Zhang mentioned that this year, more Taiwanese applied for residency permits in mainland China than in the entire previous decade, though he did not provide further details or clarify what the data entails.
Zhang credited the increase to a range of positive initiatives designed to simplify the process for Taiwanese citizens to visit and relocate to mainland China.
