Steiner Calls for Early Driver Swap at Haas: Advocates for Bearman Over Magnussen Ahead of 2025 Season
Guenther Steiner raises concerns over a flawed choice made by Haas
Guenther Steiner scrutinizes Haas' driver selection decision
Guenther Steiner argues that Haas is making a critical mistake regarding their driver choices.
The ex-team leader believes that Kevin Magnussen ought to be promptly substituted with Ollie Bearman.
Haas has officially announced that Bearman will take over Magnussen's spot for the 2025 Formula 1 season, yet Steiner is keen on making the change happen sooner.
Steiner explained to the Red Flags podcast the prime example currently is Williams.
Williams made the decision to replace the underperforming Logan Sargeant in their vehicle, a move that has paid off with Franco Colapinto's impressive showings.
Steiner humorously remarked, "The incredible Alex Albon – the most gifted racer since Michael Schumacher – followed by someone whose name leaves everyone puzzled on its pronunciation."
"What's the background of this man? I have a lot of respect for Alex; he's an excellent driver.
"Colapinto wasn't on my radar at all. Credit to James Vowles, he identified a truly promising talent there.
"The individual is matching or nearly surpassing Albon, whom we recognize as a skilled racer."
"Why not give Bearman a chance?"
"The best he can hope for is to avoid finishing next to last and crashing…"
Magnussen had to bow out prematurely from the F1 Singapore Grand Prix because of a tire blowout.
Previously, he was suspended from a single race due to accumulating too many penalty points.
Haas has made significant progress from last season when they ended up at the bottom of the constructors' standings, under Steiner's leadership.
Guided by Ayao Komatsu, they currently hold the seventh position, a feat primarily attributed to Nico Hulkenberg's performances.
Next year, Hulkenberg is set to join Sauber, while Haas has brought in Esteban Ocon from Alpine.
