The individual who reported the SNP's financial issues to the authorities expressed to Sky News that the ongoing delays in the fraud investigation could jeopardize the Scottish independence movement.
Activist Sean Clerkin initiated an investigation over three years ago by contacting police regarding concerns about over £600,000 raised for a second referendum.
Authorities have previously justified the length of the investigation, known as Operation Branchform, stating that it has expanded past the original allegations.
Detectives have charged Nicola Sturgeon's husband, Peter Murrell, with embezzlement.
Officials from the Crown Office have not confirmed a date or whether they intend to prosecute the former SNP chief executive.
Nicola Sturgeon, who holds the record as Scotland's most tenured first minister, was detained and subsequently released without any charges in 2023. Authorities searched her Glasgow residence, setting up a forensic tent in the garden at the front of her home.
The individual, aged 54, was arrested several months post-tenure, consistently maintaining her innocence.
