Sauber Looks to Infuse Youth into Its Team, Dubbed a "Retirement Home"

Rumors suggest Sauber is actively searching for younger talent to join their ranks.

According to reports, Sauber is already evaluating new driver possibilities for the future.

As they approach the year 2025, Nico Hulkenberg is set to be one of their drivers, while Valtteri Bottas is keen to remain his teammate.

The Swiss-German newspaper Blick has referred to Sauber as a "retirement home" due to the presence of two experienced F1 drivers on the team.

According to the newspaper, Sauber is evaluating potential replacements for Bottas, and a young driver is their preferred choice.

The driver identified by Blick is Gabriel Bortoleto.

Bortoleto is presently leading the Formula 2 rankings.

However, he did not secure a move up to Formula 1 for the 2025 season.

According to Blick, Bortoleto, who is currently involved in McLaren's driver program, might join Sauber next year.

According to the report, this arrangement would allow him to spend a year in a supporting role before stepping into a permanent racing position.

Sauber is the only Formula 1 team that has not earned any points yet this season.

Next year, they will keep their existing identity, but in 2026, they will transition to Audi, a company with ambitious plans, as the new regulations take effect.

Jonathan Wheatley from Red Bull is set to take on the role of team principal, and former Ferrari chief Mattia Binotto has taken up a high-level position at Audi.
