Rising Star: Andrea Kimi Antonelli Poised for F1 Debut with Mercedes in 2025
Kimi Antonelli is considered "most prepared" for his potential Formula 1 debut with Mercedes in 2025. "He needs to be fully prepared and set to start."
Ex-Formula 1 racer David Coulthard thinks that Andrea Kimi Antonelli is the most ready to join Mercedes for his debut next year.
During the Italian Grand Prix held last month, it was revealed that Antonelli will take over for Lewis Hamilton in 2025.
Next year, the Italian teenager, who is 18 years old, will advance to Formula 1 following only a single season of competing in single-seater races.
Despite Prema's struggles to perform in the FIA Formula 2 series, Antonelli has occasionally demonstrated exceptional talent, often outperforming Oliver Bearman, a Ferrari protégé slated to drive for Haas in 2025.
Antonelli has had an active schedule testing for Mercedes, having driven their previous models several times.
It is anticipated that he will compete for the team in a first practice session in 2024.
During an episode of the Formula for Success podcast, Coulthard discussed the reasons why Antonelli is well-positioned to begin his career in Formula 1.
According to Coulthard, Antonelli is likely the most well-prepared because he's been extensively testing vintage cars and has had the chance to learn from observing a seven-time world champion closely.
He needs to be fully prepared and set to compete. It's a significant challenge to partner with George Russell, who has regularly been the fastest driver in single-lap situations for Mercedes this year.
"Lewis has been raising concerns about the tires and other related issues, but ultimately, you have to work with what you have and simply move forward."
Formula 1 commentator Alex Jacques remarked: "Absolutely, if Kimi Antonelli manages to outpace George Russell in qualifying, it will definitely grab everyone's attention swiftly."
"Next year promises numerous compelling stories, and the newcomers will certainly play a role in them."
