Red Bull’s ‘Magic Floor’ Upgrade in Austin: A Game Changer or F1’s Hype of the Season?
"Major curiosity" hinted at regarding Red Bull's "mysterious" enhancement
"The so-called 'magic floor' that is expected to arrive in Austin…"
Guenther Steiner has raised doubts about the importance of a potential upgrade Red Bull might introduce in Austin.
Formula 1 is set to make its comeback for the season's closing stages next weekend with the United States Grand Prix taking place in Texas.
Red Bull and Max Verstappen are fiercely battling for both the constructors' and drivers' championships, facing tough competition from a high-performing McLaren and Lando Norris.
Former Haas team principal and Red Bull's director of technical operations, Steiner, shared his thoughts on whether the champions of the constructors' league have been able to regroup during the four-week hiatus.
"Everything is prearranged. I believe there's no benefit for you," Steiner explained on the Red Flags podcast.
"Austin has everything set for what lies ahead."
"One week or three weeks? I believe the level of readiness remains unchanged.
"The key inquiry revolves around the magnitude of this enhancement, the so-called 'magic floor' set to arrive in Austin, and its potential to narrow the gap with McLaren."
"That's the major inquiry. Everything else is clear-cut."
"I doubt we'll be able to match McLaren's performance this year. Their display in Singapore was truly impressive."
"Ferrari has the potential to make a more significant impact than they did in Singapore in the global championship."
Ideally, they were expected to lead ahead of Max. However, they didn't make the qualifications, and there was neither a red flag nor a Safety Car incident to assist them. Consequently, they were forced into a challenging battle.
"McLaren is performing well, yet Max is determined to battle through to the very end to retain his title as world champion."
Steiner argued that Red Bull's optimal strategy lies in outpacing both Mercedes and Ferrari.
"Absolutely. This allows them to capitalize if the McLaren encounters an error or faces any issues," he mentioned.
"Their success depends more on McLaren making mistakes than on their own correct actions."
McLaren is ahead of Red Bull by 41 points in the constructors' championship and is widely expected to secure the title.
Fascinatingly, Verstappen continues to maintain a 52-point advantage ahead of Norris in the drivers' standings.
