Red Bull’s 2025 F1 Line-Up: Helmut Marko Hints at Youthful Shift with Verstappen’s New Teammate
Helmut Marko offers a clue about Red Bull's strategy for their 2025 Formula 1 driver roster. Helmut Marko has hinted at what Red Bull is considering for their 2025 F1 driver team.
Helmut Marko has indicated his desire to have a Red Bull junior driver partner with Max Verstappen for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The question of who will partner with Verstappen in 2025 remains a topic of intense discussion.
Throughout 2024, Sergio Perez's performance has been largely disappointing, yet he has managed to keep his position on the team.
Initially, Daniel Ricciardo was considered the perfect choice to take over from the Mexican driver, but ultimately, Liam Lawson stepped into the role.
Reports suggest that Red Bull plans to assess Lawson's performance over the last six races to determine if he might be a suitable teammate for Verstappen in the upcoming season.
In an interview with the Austrian television channel ORF, Marko stated: "I am unsure of the number of races where Lawson outperformed Yuki. This is why we've concluded that it's time to compare him directly with Yuki to determine who is quicker among the two."
"Yuki has undeniably made significant progress. He now manages his emotions more effectively. In the past, he often expressed frustration over the radio, and those outbursts hindered his performance."
"To put it differently, he had lost his quickness, which was my biggest concern. However, that's no longer an issue. Now, he's both quick and reliable on every track."
Marko observed that competing Formula 1 teams are choosing younger drivers.
Haas has swapped out Kevin Magnussen for Oliver Bearman, and Mercedes has brought in 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli to take over for Lewis Hamilton.
Franco Colapinto has made a significant impact during his brief time with Williams, which might position him as a candidate for a seat with Sauber next year.
"Youth is back in vogue," he remarked. "The things we used to do are now being replicated by Mercedes with Antonelli and Haas with Bearman. I also hope that Colapinto finds a place."
"He was put in a challenging situation right from the start and has successfully completed three impressive races."
When asked about his aspirations for Verstappen's partner in the 2025 season, he said that he would prefer to see someone from their own junior program.
