Red Bull Gears Up for Austin with High Hopes: Horner Unveils Upgrade Strategy to Reclaim F1 Lead
Red Bull aims to boost morale with improvements to their Formula 1 car for the Austin race
Christian Horner outlines Red Bull's enhancement strategy for the upcoming United States Grand Prix.
Christian Horner has shared Red Bull's expectations for their next Formula 1 upgrade, which they plan to introduce at the United States Grand Prix happening later this month.
Numerous squads will unveil their last improvements at the Circuit of the Americas.
Now is an ideal moment, considering the four-week break between Singapore and the USA, as teams aim to enhance their performance before the last series of races.
Red Bull has fallen to second place in the F1 constructors' standings, and Max Verstappen's position as the leading driver is now at risk after Lando Norris secured a commanding victory in Singapore.
On the F1 Nation podcast, Horner disclosed that Red Bull's recent improvements focus on enhancing the RB20's drivability to boost the confidence of both team drivers.
"Horner elaborated that for every team, it's a typical moment during the season where all the teams tend to introduce new elements for the Austin race."
There's buzz that Ferrari is planning a significant upgrade. It's expected that Mercedes and McLaren will also unveil new developments. Our goal is to leverage the insights we've gained, particularly since Monza, to bring a car that achieves a harmonious balance across both axles.
"It boosts the driver's assurance. The challenge it presents is quite unique. The initial section is characterized by its rapid pace. Certain portions of the track have also been repaved, adding another element of unpredictability.
"This weekend is all about speed, so it's crucial to start strong right out of the gate. We need to consider every factor. The entire crew has put in a tremendous effort to identify and solve the problems, aiming to have solutions ready for the car by the time we reach Austin."
Horner emphasized once again that Red Bull's problems originated in 2023, despite their dominant performance then.
The 50-year-old acknowledged that Verstappen's exceptional talent obscured some of the issues that had surfaced.
"He pointed out that upon closer examination, it becomes clear that the aerodynamic problems we're facing can be traced back to 2023," he further explained.
"I believe Max's remarkable skill in navigating challenges has allowed him to manage situations effectively, in contrast, Checo seemed to struggle significantly. It almost reminded me of the Benetton team's experiences in the early 1990s."
"Michael Schumacher had the unique skill to handle that car effectively, whereas others who tried found it challenging. Max possesses the talent to maneuver a vehicle despite its sensitivities. This became apparent during its assembly in Monza, especially when the downforce was reduced, which underscored the misalignment between the front and rear axles.
"The figures we anticipated to observe in practice significantly deviated from those predicted by our simulation software."
