Quartararo Keeps Focus on Present Amid Yamaha’s V4 Development Buzz
Fabio Quartararo remains undistracted by Yamaha's V4 developments despite MotoGP advancements
The 2021 global champion is concentrating on the existing Yamaha setup
Fabio Quartararo has stated that he isn't currently concentrating on the development of Yamaha's V4 MotoGP engine, as his attention is on making advancements with the 2024 lineup.
Recently, Yamaha has seen an improvement in performance, as Quartararo has achieved three consecutive Q2 qualifications and has finished in the top seven in the past three Grand Prix races.
Yamaha has taken a significant stride forward by announcing its development of a V4 engine aimed at enhancing its performance in future MotoGP races.
This upcoming weekend at the Motegi circuit, the Japanese Grand Prix provides an opportunity for Yamaha's racers to head to its Iwata facility to discuss the M1 project with the engineering team.
Despite what is being said openly, Quartararo has stated that he's not concentrating on the advancements of the V4 engine, but rather, he is directing his focus towards ongoing developments, which involves a new chassis upgrade for the upcoming Motegi race.
"When questioned on whether he had the opportunity to discuss the V4 with Yamaha's Japanese engineers, he responded, 'No, my attention isn't on that engine at the moment, because I'm concentrated on the present.'"
"We must put forth our utmost effort to experience the enhancements."
"I believe Yamaha has introduced its fourth unique chassis in the span of five races during their time in Japan."
"Indeed, it's quite significant because it's something we haven't experienced before. We're optimistic that the introduction of the new chassis this weekend will improve the rear grip."
Anticipating the upcoming weekend, Quartararo has voiced worries regarding the stop-and-go characteristic of the Motegi circuit, attributing the M1's deficiencies in power and corner-exit traction as major concerns.
"He suggested checking it out this weekend," he further mentioned.
"In this particular area, there's a significant increase in speed. Therefore, we're aware that there's a shortfall in power, which will be extremely critical."
"However, if we're able to make it into Q2 starting tomorrow, that would be great."
"We've enhanced the braking system and slightly increased the grip on the edges during braking, but not during acceleration."
"However, I'm hopeful that with significant braking, as I mentioned, achieving a top 10 position by Friday could entirely transform our weekend."
"Therefore, my anticipation and intention is to make it by Friday."
